What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?
There isn't any difference between cooking with whole spices and ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. The quality is the same.
However, this price differential is quite significant. Whole spices can be more expensive due to the labor involved in their processing. But the taste is worth it.

Spices can bring out the best of any beverage. From coffee to tea, hot chocolate to cocktails, there's nothing more satisfying than adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to a glass of wine or beer.
Most recipes call for ground spices. This means that you'll need fresh whole spice. Although this is logical, it can be costly, time-consuming, and takes up storage space.
Here's where the magic happens. With a little creativity, you can make your favorite spices easy to use in powdered form. These spices can be mixed into favorite beverages to create tasty spiced drinks.
There are two possible ways to create these powders. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. A mortar and pestle is another method to grind the spices to a finer consistency.
No matter which method you use, the powder will be much easier to measure and store than whole spices. You won't run short of powder, and it keeps well.
Mixing spices can be fun to create new flavors. To make minty water, you can combine spearmint and peppermint leaves. Or ginger and cardamom pods to make spicy ginger tea.
