What is the use of garlic in Thai cooking?
Thai cuisine often uses garlic. Garlic is used in Thai cuisine as an ingredient in salads, soups and stir-fries.
Thai garlic is fried in a mixture of shallots and ginger. Additionally, garlic is often eaten with sticky Rice.
Chilli paste, salt and lime juice are the most popular ways to eat garlic. This mixture is called "Nam Phrik" (namphrik). Nam phrik is often accompanied by grilled chicken or beef.
Can you spice up a drink?
I love the way spices add flavour to food. But how do you make them come alive when used in drinks?
Spices are wonderful because they can add depth and flavor to any beverage. Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to your favorite beverage, such as coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
But, since most recipes call to ground spices, you'll need whole spices. While this makes sense, it is costly, takes time and requires storage space.
That's where the magic happens. With some creativity, your favourite spices can be made into powdered forms that are easy to use. Mix them with your favorite drinks to make delicious spiced beverages.
There are two ways to go about creating these powders. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. Another method is to use a mortar & pestle to grind the spices until they are finely ground.
You'll find it easier to make powder than whole spices, regardless of the method. The powder is stable so you don't run low on stock.
Mixing different spices can create new flavors. Peppermint and spearmint can be combined to make minty water. You can also make spicy ginger-ginger tea by combining ginger and cardamom seeds.
Once you have mastered the art of making powdered spices you can use that same technique for herbs. Some popular herbs include basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and sage.
There are many options. Powdered spices can be used to add flavour to beverages or enhance the flavor of dishes like soups, salads and pasta.
What's the difference in cooking with whole vs. ground spices? Ground Spices?
There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. So there is no difference in quality.
But the price gap is significant. Whole spices are more expensive due to the labour required for processing them. But the flavour is well worth it.
Bulk purchases of whole spices can often get you additional discounts. A whole bag of cinnamon sticks might be eligible for a discount.
The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. You may be able save money if you buy these spices in bulk.
Ground spices are also more durable than whole spices. Ground spices lose their potency very quickly due to oxidation.
We recommend buying whole spices because they add flavor to your recipes.
For instance, you can make a delicious curry with whole turmeric instead of ground turmeric. You can also use whole coriander to create a spice combination for chicken dishes.
Also, grinding spices takes time. When you buy whole spices, it makes sense to buy a large quantity. So that you don’t run out of spices, it’s a smart move.

How to store cooking spices in a way that maximizes their performance. We must first understand the science behind food storage.
Spices are stored in airtight containers away from the light because exposure to light diminishes their flavour. This is due to oxygen combining with organic compounds, such as spices.
Spices should be kept in the dark cupboards and sealed tightly in airtight containers to prevent oxidation. If these conditions are not met, spices will quickly lose their flavour.
The best way to preserve the flavour of spices is to keep them in airtight jars away from direct sunlight.
To make flavoured drinks, you can add herbs or spices to water. Mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup warm water. Stir well. Serve immediately by adding a squeeze lemon juice.
You can add dried herbs and spices to soups, stews, casseroles, pasta, rice dishes, salads, and desserts. Just sprinkle the spice mix evenly over the dish. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before you serve.
You can add leftover cooked vegetables, fruits, meats and shellfish to your favorite recipes as snacks.
