Frequently Asked Questions

Almond Flour vs. Almond Meal. What's The Difference?

An almond meal, which can be used as an almond flour substitute, is more versatile than other almond flours because it can be used for baking and cooking, as well as making nut free dishes.

Almond flour may also contain gluten, making it difficult to digest. It is important to avoid gluten-free products if you have celiac or other digestive disorders.

While almond flour isn't considered a "superfood" per se, it contains healthy fats, fibre, protein, and vitamin E. It's also low in calories and sodium and contains no cholesterol.

Almond meal has many nutritional benefits, including magnesium, copper and zinc as well as manganese and potassium.

Almond flour is made from almonds and contains monounsaturated fat acids. Almond oil, however, contains polyunsaturated oils. Both help to lower LDL (bad), and increase HDL levels.

Almond flour also contains antioxidants like phenolics and flavonoids. These compounds protect against oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

In a study published in Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, almond flour was found to have an antioxidant activity comparable to blueberries, cranberries or pomegranates and red wine grapes juice.

Almond flour is usually sold alongside almond milk, fortified with additional nutrients.

What uses is Thai spice?

The term Thai spice is a common phrase that we've heard a lot, but don't really know what it means. When we taste it, our mouths water and we wonder why we aren't eating more.

It isn't just any spice. It is an important ingredient that gives flavor and depth to bland dishes.

Many recipes call for Thai spice, but only a few have the actual thing. So let's help you figure out how to ensure you're adding these delicious flavors to your meals.

Thais have been using spices and herbs to flavor food and drinks since ancient times. Thai is the Sanskrit word that means "to cook".

Most Thais like spicy food, even today. This preference is often due to the heat in Thailand which makes it difficult for people to stay warm without hot drinks. Thais also consume more chili peppers that Americans or Europeans.

The best way to learn about Thai spices is to visit a local Asian grocery store. There will be a large selection of ingredients available including dried chilies (fresh basil leaves), curry paste, ground black pepper, and curry paste.

You may also find whole peppercorns.

Thai cuisine has two kinds of spices: wet and dry. Dry spices are usually ground, while wet ones are crushed or pounded finely.

Dry spices are often added to a dish directly. For example, ground red pepper is sprinkled onto chicken soup. A paste is made by combining wet spices and oil with butter or butter.

Wet spices can be used in sauces, dressings, and marinades. Common wet spices include oyster sauce, fish sauce and sesame oils, curry paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame seed oil.

You need to be able to match certain spices with Thai ingredients if you wish to make Thai food at home.

Red pepper flakes are recommended for beef. White pepper is better for seafood such as shrimp.

If you don't live near an Asian market, you can order online. Here you will find everything, from dried chilies and exotic herbs to spices.

Next time you're hungry, try one of these delicious Thai recipes!

What are the 7 Indian spices?

Indian spices refers to a variety of spices that are used in Indian cooking. These spices include cumin, cardamom and coriander as well as turmeric, fenugreek and ginger. These spices add flavour and aroma to dishes by blending and complementing natural ingredients such as meats and vegetables. These spices combine to create distinctive flavour profiles which are the hallmark of Indian cooking.

Cardamom's sweet, pungent flavor is balanced with ginger and citrus notes. It's used in many dishes, including biryani and curries. Cumin has an earthy, rich aroma and a nutty flavor. It is often added in to curries, dals, or meat dishes. Coriander adds a delicate nuttiness and sweet citrus aroma to dishes. It is commonly used to season vegetables, lentils, and other foods.

Turmeric has an earthy, spicy flavour that includes mustard, spices and pepper hints. This spice is used in curries and other dishes. It has a golden color. Fenugreek has a rich aroma, earthy tones, and a slightly bitter flavour. It is commonly used to season meat dishes, such as kebabs and curry. Ginger is pungent and spicy with hints o citrus. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida or hing has a pungent scent and strong taste that can replace onion and garlic for some recipes.

These spices combine to create unique flavours that make Indian cuisine so distinctive.

What Thai spice is needed to make Thai food at my home?

You will need to know five key spices in order to make authentic Thai food at your home: cayenne pepper, coriander seeds and turmeric. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in the creation delicious dishes.

Cinnamon adds sweetness, while black pepper brings out savoury flavours. Curry powder gets its yellow hue from turmeric and coriander seeds. Cayenne peppers are hot, and cilantro adds freshness. The final touch is cinnamon which gives depth and complexity to any dish.

Each of these spices can be found at your local grocery, but you may prefer to buy them online.

What's the difference of curry and curried

It doesn't matter how the spelling is written. Both words refer to the same thing: an Indian dish combining meat or vegetables with various seasonings.

Curry is derived from the Hindi word kari, which means "to rub". This refers to the way the spice mixture is applied to the food. Curried foods are generally cooked until they become golden.

Curried dishes were once reserved for special occasions, but today, they're enjoyed frequently throughout India. They can include chicken, beef, lamb, fish, vegetables, and rice.

Curried dishes can be served alongside plain white or brown rice. The most common accompaniments are raita (a yogurt paste) and chutney.

What is the value of spices?

Spices are seasonings that enhance the flavour of food. Spices can come in many forms: powders or liquids, oils, pastes or seeds, as well as liquids and gums. They can also be called condiments or flavours.

It's a great way of adding variety to your meals by spiceing them up. Numerous spices can be added to dishes for extra flavour and excitement.

Perhaps a little hot pepper sauce will enhance the flavor of your soup. A cup of cooked rice could be made more delicious by adding a few cayenne to the soup.

Fresh ingredients are best for experimenting with spicing. Look for organic dried herbs when you purchase them. Fresh herbs last longer than dried.

Although some spices are essential to cooking, there are others that you might prefer not to use. If you have a history or liver disease, cinnamon sticks can be dangerous. Although ginger also contains coumarin it is much less concentrated. It's safe for people who don't have a history of liver problems.

What's the difference between cooking whole and with ground spices? Ground Spices?

There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. This ensures that there are no differences in the quality of spices.

The price difference is however significant. Whole spices cost more because of the labour involved in processing them. But the flavour is worth it.

You'll often find extra discounts for bulk purchases when you buy whole spices. For example, you might receive a discount if you buy an entire bag of cinnamon sticks.

This is true for cloves, ginger and cardamom. These spices can be purchased in bulk to save money.

Ground spices last much longer than whole spices. Ground spices lose their potency rapidly due to oxygenation.

But the main reason why we recommend purchasing whole spices is that they add a lot of character to recipes.

A delicious curry can be made with whole turmeric as opposed to ground turmeric. For chicken dishes, whole coriander seeds can be ground to make a spice blend.

It takes time to grind spices. A large amount of whole spices is a good idea. So you don't run short of spices.
