What is summer without an incredibly delicious Mojito? My Mojito is not just a bold statement. I believe it to be the best I've ever had. Light rum with sugar, lime juice and mint leaves are combined with club soda to create a delicious taste.

Mojito is the glamorous cousin of fancy cocktails such as the Mint Julep or the caipirinha. They share many of the same ingredients, but the Mojito is lighter because it contains rum. Try my Rum Runner cocktail or a Pina Colada if you love rum. Both are great on hot summer days.

Ingredients

Are you ready for some Cuban food? What you will need:

  • 2 oz. Light rum
  • 2 tsp of white sugar
  • 1 oz. Fresh lime juice
  • Mint leaves - 1 handful
  • club soda

Equipment needed

  • Highball glass
  • Muddler
  • Bar Spoon
  • Jigger
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Small strainer (optional).

Instrucciones

Muddle

Mint leaves and sugar should be muddled or smashed in a glass. The mint releases its essential oils.

Add

Add the lime and rum. Stir it well to dissolve the sugar.

Fill

Fill the glass up with ice, then top it off with club soda.

Garnish

Add a little extra mint, and garnish with a limewheel. Enjoy!

How to make a low-calorie/healthy mojito

  • can be used instead of white sugar. Stevia is a good alternative. You can also add a little raw honey.
  • Look for brands with lower-calorie versions that are less carbohydrate-loaded. (Captain Morgan is a good example).
  • Select a club soda that is sugar-free.
  • Skip the rum and you can enjoy this refreshing classic without alcohol. It's great for everyone.

How to make a perfect mojito

  • Choose a high-quality light rum. Search for brands with a robust, smooth flavor.
  • Gently muddle the sugar and mint leaves, to release the oils from the mint. Do not tear the leaves as this can result in an bitter taste.
  • juice is a healthier alternative to store-bought juices.
  • Crushed Ice instead of ice blocks in your Mojito creates an appealing texture and allows for the drink to be chilled evenly.
  • The addition of a lime wheel and a sprig or mint will not only enhance the flavor but also make it look more appealing.

Serve it chilled to enjoy the refreshing taste. Remember to savor this moment, and let the mint and lime flavours melt on your palate.

Which rum is the best for making a Mojito?

The old-school Mojito uses a light or white rum. Don't be scared to upgrade. The higher the quality of the rum the richer and smoother the drink will be.

Any variations that you would recommend?

Use coconut rum in place of light rum to make a tropical Mojito.

Where does the Mojito come from?

Cuba is the origin of the Mojito. This is a popular highball from Cuba that's enjoyed around the world.

how to prep and store mojitos

You can get parts of your cocktails ready beforehand -- that's the good news -- though you'll need to bruise that fresh mint and mix the drink right before serving for the best taste.

Put together the rum, lime juice, and sugar in a big jug and store it in the fridge. When it's time to enjoy, add the mint to the bottom of the glass, splash in your cooled mix, and crown it with some club soda.

Leftovers can be bundled up in an airtight flask and stashed in the chiller for a couple of days. Just remember, squeeze in that fresh mint and club soda right before serving to maintain that nippy, bubbly vibe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is organic produce healthy?

There are two types, those we grow our own and those we purchase from another source. There are exceptions to these categories, but most people will answer your question yes. Organic food is healthier as it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals or pesticides, herbicides and preservatives.

There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.

Organic food is better tasting and healthier because it contains more vitamins and minerals. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.

The USDA regulates organic agriculture practices. This means that farmers must adhere to strict guidelines to make sure organic produce is safe to consume. There are currently more than 30,000,000 acres of US farmland which have been designated organic.

Organic food is often cheaper than traditional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.

According to Environmental Working Group, organic food can be 10 percent cheaper per pound when compared to conventionally produced food. If you care about the health of yourself and your family, consider switching to organic food.

Organic food has become a popular alternative to standard American diets. It is often believed that organic food is exclusive to specialty markets and gourmet restaurants. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.

Organic food sales have increased significantly in recent years. In 2012, the US market value for organic food was $43 Billion. This is an increase of $21 Billion from 2007.

Why should I go organic?

Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. It is important to make informed choices about food purchases.

The Environmental Working Group has the following tips for choosing "cleaner" food.

As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables

USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.

Avoid processed foods labelled "natural"/ "no additives."

Check ingredient lists carefully. If an ingredient doesn't appear on the list, it could be added to the product during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

Is organic meat healthier?

If you have been paying attention for long enough, you will probably know the answer. Here's the problem: Organic food is becoming more sought-after, while traditional food continues to decline in popularity.

Organic foods continue to be popular because they offer a healthier alternative. Organic foods are also safer for our overall health and reduce pollution.

However, there are also two sides to this coin. Organic produce is more difficult to grow and takes more resources. Organic food is generally more expensive than nonorganic.

Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.

Buy locally to save money. Buying locally grown fruits and vegetables helps keep prices low because farmers receive incentives to grow healthy crops.

You can also look for deals to reduce costs. There are often discounts offered when purchasing organics.

Consuming less meat is another way to save cash. Because of the amount of feed required to raise livestock, meat production can become expensive.

There are many reasons that organic food is better than regular food for our bodies, and also for the planet. However, it is important to remember the price.

Statistics

  • Popular clothing brands, like Patagonia, are labelled as organic by using 100 percent organic cotton for many of their styles. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Cosmetic brands such as Laurel and Rose Mira are 100 percent organic and have a wide array of skincare products. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • To provide the highest quality products and services to every customer, with a dedicated workforce that puts the customer first and takes the extra step to achieve 100% customer satisfaction and loyalty. (hollinsorganic.com)
  • Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

Are there any downsides to organic products?

The benefits of organic food are well known. However, organic foods have their drawbacks. These include higher prices for consumers, lower quality standards, and fewer options.

You can't go wrong with wanting more options when it comes grocery shopping. We're conditioned to expect low-quality foods that taste bad. This is why grocery stores are stocked with the same prepackaged products.

Organic food is becoming more and more popular due to its superior nutrition and delicious taste. How do you convince people that it is worth the extra effort?

Well, you could tell them that organic food costs more. Organic food tastes better, but that doesn't make it any less expensive. They might be suspicious of your motives.

Instead, highlight its strengths. Organic food has more nutrients, and is free of pesticides and other antibiotics. Organic food is also grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or herbicides. This makes it healthier for our bodies and the environment.

Many people don't want to eat organic food because it is too expensive. If they take into account the health benefits, however, they might decide that spending a few extra dollars per week is worthwhile.

Organic food tastes better as it's manufactured under strict guidelines that avoid contamination. Organic food retains more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Organic food tastes better because it is picked later in the season. This makes it easier to digest and fresher.

Organic food is usually cheaper than conventional food because it is grown organically by farmers, which means that they use less fertilizer and labour.
