You are looking for a super-charged breakfast to keep you going throughout the day? Try my recipe of Scrambled Eggs and Cottage Cheese.

The combination of these two protein powders was more out of necessity than by design. On a chilly Sunday, with very little food at home, I was forced to decide whether I would brave the heat and go shopping or just make due with what I had. Guess which one I chose? The easier option, of course.

Could these two pair together? Can cottage cheese give my scrambled egg dish a special touch? Yes, it is! Since then, I have used the cottage cheese to transform my scrambles into a fluffy breakfast dish.

This high-protein side dish is perfect for those who have fallen in love with my Baked Eggs Recipe or my Breakfast Hash Recipe.

What is the healthiness of scrambled eggs with cottage cheese?

Absolutely. The cottage cheese and eggs are both packed with protein, which is great for muscle recovery and performance. Olive oil is good for your heart and we use less salt so that it's still tasty.

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh eggs
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Instrucciones

Whisk

Add the cottage cheese and a pinch of pepper and salt to a large bowl. Whisk until blended.

Pour

In a nonstick skillet, heat the olive oil over MEDIUM-HIGH heat. Add the whisked egg.

Fold

Use a spatula and gently push the eggs to the center of your pan. Continue cooking until the eggs are mostly done but slightly runny at times. This should only take 3-5 min.

Tips and Tricks

Buy High-Quality eggs: Organic or farm-fresh eggs are much tastier.

Don’t skimp on the whisking:This my secret for fluffy eggs. The more you whisk the eggs, the more air is introduced.

Use gentle heat: Too high a temperature can cause your eggs to become tough. Cook them gently and slowly.

Keep your eggs moving: I suggest that you keep your eggs in the pan. This will result in small, soft curds which are much more delicious.

Last Season: Add salt only when your eggs are almost done. Salt can make your eggs runny by removing moisture.

FAQ

Can I substitute cottage cheese for another type of cheese

You can substitute cottage cheese for a creamy, soft cheese like ricotta. Add goat cheese or Feta to give it more zest.

What other ingredients can I add to the recipe?

The addition of bell peppers, spinach, or tomatoes can be a great way to boost your nutrition. It's best to cook the vegetables first, then add them to your eggs. If you'd like to add more protein, you can also add bacon bits, diced ham, or smoked salmon.

What are the best techniques to whisk eggs and cottage cheese together?

No special technique is required. Grab a fork and whisk to mix the cottage cheese and eggs vigorously. I aim for a very smooth texture.

Can I substitute egg whites for whole eggs in this recipe?

Two egg whites per whole egg is a good guideline. This will make your scramble lighter and change the texture.

Serving Suggestions

This creamy scrambled egg with cottage cheese is perfect spread on your favorite toasted wholegrain or almond flour bread. You want a well-rounded breakfast. Add some tomatoes and avocado to the side. Add an apple cinnamon muffin and a cup your favorite coffee to finish.

How to store scrambled eggs with cottage cheese

Put your scrambled egg in a container and chill it. You can keep them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. You can warm them gently on the stove or in the microwave when you're ready to do it again. Keep the temperature low. If you increase it, your eggs will become tougher.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the health benefits of organic foods?

While organic foods may not be suitable for everyone's health, they are healthy for some people. But for those who eat them regularly, there are definite health benefits.

Organic food is free from artificial fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides as well as hormones, antibiotics and genetic engineering. This means that organic produce is grown without harmful chemicals that could harm human health.

There are also fewer additives used during processing. So when you buy an organic product, you're likely eating healthier than non-organic products.

Studies have shown organic foods have more nutrients and antioxidants that conventionally grown fruits, vegetables.

While organic farming is more expensive than traditional farming, it often produces better results. When farmers grow crops organically, they encourage soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps preserve water resources and prevents erosion. Organic farms require less fuel and energy because they don't contain toxic chemicals.

Many people are concerned that organic food is more expensive than regular foods. Prices can vary depending on where you live. Organic apples, for example, are more expensive than regular apples.

But, if we look at the total cost of a combination of both types and fruits, we'll see organic is much cheaper.

Do you really need to buy organic?

It all depends upon who you are. If organic food doesn't appeal to you, you shouldn't bother.

You can purchase organic food if it is delicious. Organic food is safer because organic produce is not grown by commercial growers who use pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Organic agriculture protects our environment by conserving natural resources and promoting biodiversity.

What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?

Organic food does not contain pesticides, chemical fertilisers, sewage waste, irradiation, genetic modification. Organic farming practices contribute to soil health, water purity, and animal welfare.

Inorganic foods are produced using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and sewage effluent. Radiated foods can be treated with radiation. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created by biological engineering techniques.

The term "natural" is often used interchangeably with "organic." But natural does not necessarily imply organic. Products labelled "natural", however, may contain synthetic chemicals.

Organic produce is often more nutritious than conventional produce, as the soil has fewer pesticides and harmful chemicals. Organic farmers don't use any artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics.

Is organic the same as pesticide-free?

Organic food is chemical-free and grown without pesticides. This means that organic food is often free of pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic produce also contains more nutrients than conventionally produced foods because it contains no harmful additives.

Farmers must follow strict guidelines to grow organic crops under the USDA National Organic Program (NOP).

These guidelines include soil preparation and crop rotation, pest management, water conservation, as well as harvesting practices.

In addition, organic farming methods promote healthy ecosystems, which benefit wildlife and natural habitats.

Statistics

  • Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • Popular clothing brands, like Patagonia, are labelled as organic by using 100 percent organic cotton for many of their styles. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)

How To

Organic foods: Are organic foods healthier?

Organic foods can be grown without the use synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides. They are grown naturally without artificial inputs such pesticides and herbicides. Organic farming practices include crop rotation and cover crops, the composting of animal manure, the recycling of wastewater, as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

In 2002, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), was established to regulate the sale, purchase, labelling, production, and distribution of organic products in the United States. Organic agricultural products must be produced in accordance with federal standards as set out by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.

The United States offers two certification programs for producers that want their products to be certified organic: one for farmers, ranchers and the other for manufacturers. Both programs require an annual audit of the operations in order to confirm compliance with stringent standards. Many certifying agents offer this service, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers (QA International), American Grassfed Association, and Quality Assurance International. Each of these organizations provides third-party verification to verify that farms are following strict guidelines in regards to environmental stewardship, labour practices and care for livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service in 2013, organic agriculture generated $4.7 billion in revenue. Retail spending on certified organic products reached nearly $1.5 Billion in 2013. This is a 23 per cent increase from 2009. During this time, grocery store sales increased by 12 percent. Spending on direct purchases of organic produce increased by 29 percent, while spending on meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, and seafood grew by only 1 percent.

While organic food costs more, consumers say its quality justifies the added expense. Consumer Reports conducted a survey in 2015 and found that 88 percent of respondents would pay more for organic foods if they had higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.

There is no evidence to suggest eating organic foods can treat or prevent any diseases. However, some studies have suggested that they might be beneficial for your health as they may reduce your exposure of pesticides and contaminants. A review of 31 studies that were published in 2010 found that organically raised beef has significantly lower levels than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of 11 studies published in 2012 reached similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group's 2014 report examined data from the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. It found that foodborne illnesses caused by E.coli, salmonella and listeria monocytogenes and verotoxin producing E.coli O157:H7 declined when organic and non-organic chickens, meat, lamb, dairy, and cheese were compared. The group also noted that the incidence of human illnesses due to E. coli O157 declined among children and adults after 2006, when the USDA started requiring more stringent organic standards for animals raised for consumption.
