You're going to be introduced to a dish at my home that is always a big hit: Easy cheesy-baked asparagus! You just need to wrap the asparagus in mozzarella cheese and sprinkle with a little lemon juice for a bit of extra zest. This dish is easy to make and your kids will enjoy it (in part due to the cheese).

Is Baked Asparagus with Cheesy Sauce Healthy?

Asparagus belongs to the family of green vegetables, so you should be aware of its high health value. Asparagus is rich in heart-healthy minerals and vitamins, and the mozzarella adds calcium and protein to the dish. This side dish balances nutrition and taste. Olive oil adds monounsaturated fatty acids to the dish. The cheese is high in fat. If you are watching your fat intake then remember to control the portion size.

Only the asparagus, oil and mozzarella are necessary; all other ingredients can be added for taste.

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

This recipe calls for asparagus, so I won't suggest that you leave them out. I suggest you add other vegetables, such as bell peppers and even squash. You can also add bacon crumbles, like in these roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon.

Tips and Tricks

Prepare your asparagus. To get juicy, tender asparagus, snap off the bottom pieces where they naturally give when bent. This is what I do when I want to remove the tough ends.

Do not skip the lemon. The lemon juice adds a tangy taste to the creamy mozzarella and keeps the asparagus crisp.

Buy good cheese When it comes to cheese, do not skimp on the mozzarella.

Watch your baking time: Do NOT overbake. Around 10 minutes into the baking process, check your asparagus. Avoid asparagus and cheese that is too brown.

Presentation is the key . This is a tip about what you DON’T have to DO. This dish is not suitable for plated presentations. It's better to remove it from the oven when it is golden and bubbling and place it on the table with its baking dish.

Serving Suggestions

This cheesy asparagus is great with almost anything! It goes well with sizzling steaks or juicy chicken. You can also add it to your pasta or a mushroom risotto if you are a vegetarian. You want something lighter? Add this delicious asparagus to a quinoa-based salad and you have a tasty meal.
