Well, you guys.

It happened.

I HAVE VACATED THE PREMESIS OF “Early 20’s” and have now reached “MID 20’s”

It was my birthday yesterday, and I turned the ripe old age of 24.

I think that my next purchase will be a cane. Whaddayathink? Good life investment?

BETTER YET. A scooter. Because I am the worlds laziest active person, and I hate any sort of movement outside of my time in the gym.

Just keepin’ it real here on FFF.

You may have seen all the surprise birthday events if you follow me on Instagram, but Imma recap them for you anyway.

We actually celebrated on Saturday, since Sunday is an early to bed work night…and we happen to be about 87 years old, and go to bed around 8:30-9pm.

Judge us.

Anyway.

So. We hit the gym Saturday morning and then BASICALLY RIGHT AFTER he took me to this place where someone teaches you to paint a picture.

And you drink white wine cocktails while doing it. I’m not even much for wine…especially when it’s 11am and I just worked out 30 mins ago.

But, rules are meant to be broke on birthdays. Here are our beautiful, wine-induced photos.

AND THEN, he took me to a super swanky mall and let me SHOP. <— He is a keeper.

Post shopping we went to this funky little joint where they served equally funky cocktails and small plates of food. We shared some goat cheese, sage and chicken endive boats, harissa lamb meatballs, seven spice shrimp and a hash with octopus, chorizo and Marcona almonds. We were unsure about the last one.

Until we tried it. Taste buds? Consider yourself BOOM.

Obviously there was white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. And a Pumpkin Chai gluten free cupcake. Because I couldn’t decide which one. So? BOTH.

On my actual Birthday, we OBVI went to Ihop for whole wheat pancakes, (he got healthy gluten free samoa scones with Greek yogurt) and then binge watched movies all day.

Needless to say, I had a fab weekend.

Wow, that was A LOT about me…how was your weekend?! Please tell me that you did something that was ALL SORTS of fun?!

If you didn’t, and even if you did, I have something fun for you to do today!

MAKE YOUR OWN CINNAMON CRUNCH BAGELS. Like, you know, those AMAZING ones from Panera?

EX-CE-PT you get to make them with whole wheaty and coconut oily goodness.

Yeahhhhhh I did.

Now. Bagels are a little bit of a challenge. Which I like. Hence the creation.

However, I included some REALLY HIDEOUS process steps for you that were taken in my zero-natural-light kitchen not with fancy cameras.

Sorry about that.

But, I figured I could just hypnotize you by that crunchy, swirly topping and you wouldn’t even notice.

Was I right? Please say yes.

These bagels were the first thing that I tried when I took my legal-alien-resident self down to America and finally got to try Panera.

And then I wanted to eat them for all the evers that were left of my life. Along side the Panera Power Chicken Hummus Salad.

And now I can. And so can you!

Bagel Twins!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups Water Warm, 110 to 120 degree F
  • 1 tablespoon Yeast I used Red Star
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Honey Divided
  • 1 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Pastry Flour 167g
  • 1/2 tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 3/4 cups Bread Flour Not whole wheat, 235g
  • 3/4 cup White Chocolate Chips
  • Cornmeal For sprinkling on the pan

For the topping:

  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar Packed
  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Oil Melted

Instructions

  • Add the warm water and yeast into the bowl of your stand mixer. Stir with a fork and let stand until the yeast begins to blossom, about 10 minutes.
  • Stir in the honey, whole wheat pastry flour and cinnamon. Using the dough hook, knead the mixture on the lowest setting for 1 minute, to incorporate the flours. Then, scrape the sides of the bowl down and turn up to the second speed setting and knead for 3 more minutes.
  • Turn the mixer off and let the dough rest for 5 minutes so that the flour can begin to absorb the water. Your batter may have a few lumps, just give it a good stir to break them down.
  • Once the batter has rested, turn the mixer on to the lowest speed, and add the bread flour, 1/2 a cup at a time. Knead for 7 minutes, add in the white chocolate chips, and then knead for 1 minute more to incorporate them. You can scrape the sides of the bowl or dough hook down as needed.
  • Cover the mixer with a kitchen towel and let rise for one hour.
  • Turn the risen dough onto a lightly floured surface and punch down. Using a very sharp knife, cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin rope* and let rest for 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle a baking sheet generously with cornmeal.
  • Then, loop each rope into a circle, really twisting the ends together to make sure that they are nice and secure. Repeat with all the pieces of dough, and place onto the cornmeal covered baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rest until they rise slightly, about 10-15 minutes.
  • While the dough rests bring a 4 1/2 litre pot of water to a boil. Add in the remaining 1 Tbsp of honey and then cover and turn the heat down to keep your water at a low boil. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and line a separate baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Once the bagels have risen, gently place 2-3 at time into the water, cook for 50 seconds and gently flip, cooking an additional 50 seconds. Using a slotted spoon, pick up the bagels. and drain any of the water off. Transfer to parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining bagels.
  • While the bagels boil, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Once all the bagels are done, brush the tops liberally with melted coconut oil and then sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar, rubbing it into the tops of each bagel. Make sure you use all the sugar, as you want these nice and crunchy on top.
  • Bake until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack and eat.

Notes

A slightly easier way to form the bagels is to roll into balls and use your thumbs to press a hole out of the middle, and gentle form the hole bigger. However, this tends to lead to flatter bagels.
The cinnamon sugar topping does go soft if left at room temperature so bagels are best left at room temperature for only 2-3 days, and toasted before eating. Alternatively, you can freeze them for up to 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic food?

Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Inorganic foods contain these chemicals, which may cause health problems.

Organic food is grown naturally without harmful substances such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. These chemicals can be harmful to both animals and people.

Inorganic food includes meat, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, honey, grains, vegetables, fruits, spices, and herbs.

The way that an agricultural product is grown organically is what the term means. Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

Foods labeled as organic must meet strict guidelines by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the National Organic Program Standards, all certified organic food must be free from prohibited materials such as antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and industrial solvents. Organic food must not be produced with toxic chemicals, petroleum or sewage sludges or ionizing radioactive substances.

What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This seal signifies that the product meets specific USDA standards. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.

When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Cattle are ruminants which means that they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.

Buy only dairy products from cows that have been fed organically grown feed. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

Are organic meats better?

If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. But here's the rub, organic food is becoming more popular while conventional food continues to fall out of favour.

Organic foods are becoming more popular because they are better for us. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

However, there are also two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes more time to grow and requires greater resources. Organic food is more expensive than non-organic.

Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.

One way to save money is to buy locally. Locally grown fruits and veggies help to lower prices because farmers get incentives to grow good crops.

Look for bargains to cut down on costs. You may be able to get discounts when you buy organics.

You can also save money by eating less meat. Feeding livestock can be very expensive.

Organic food is healthier for the planet and our bodies than conventional food, but it's important to not overlook its cost.

What are the most loved organic products?

Today, organic foods are the fastest-growing industries. Even though we have come a long ways from our roots there is still plenty of room for growth.

Organic products are the future. They are safer, healthier for the environment, and easier to afford for consumers.

They are also generally more expensive. That's why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to know which foods are popular today and whether trends are changing.

The results showed that organic food is increasing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.

The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. The U.S. now produces 9% of its agricultural output from organic food.

Organic food is definitely on the rise, but it still seems expensive for consumers. The average retail price for organic food is almost twice that of conventional foods, according to the Organic Trade Association (OTA).

Organic food is growing faster that any other sector of the food industry. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.

According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.

This is due to consumer demand for healthier food, which explains why organic foods sales are rising across all age groups.

However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely than baby boomers to buy organic foods. The 25% of organic food purchase made by younger adults below 35 are made up of young adults.

Statistics

  • Cosmetic brands such as Laurel and Rose Mira are 100 percent organic and have a wide array of skincare products. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids were up to 50 percent higher in organic meats and milk than in conventionally raised products.[3] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)

How To

How to get Organic Meat on a budget

In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.

  1. Buy at wholesale clubs - Costco and Sams Club are great places to shop for bulk foods like chicken breasts and pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. This will ensure that you don't waste any meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. There are also discounts on lamb steaks (lamb steaks), ground beef, pork loins, and beef roasts. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
  3. Local farmers will usually be cheaper than big-box retailers since they don't pay large fees to stock their shelves. They know exactly what the animals ate and drank to ensure they are fully informed about what is in their bodies.
  4. Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts are very low in fat and high in protein.
  5. Try new recipes. You can cut down on your grocery costs by starting to cook with ingredients you don't have before. It's possible to create delicious meals with fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic using olive oil, spices, and garlic.
  6. You can be creative with leftovers. If you have leftover poultry or meat, you can use them to make sandwiches, soups and casseroles. For quick lunches, leftover meat can be used to make dinners.

So, there you are! Here are some tips on how you can afford organic meat despite being on a strict budget. Do you have any other tips? Have any other tips for me about where to buy cheap meat?
