Frequently Asked Questions

Does Thai use ginger?

The answer is yes. Ginger is used extensively in traditional Thai cooking. It is commonly added to stir-fries or soups. Ginger is also used in desserts such as lassis.

Ginger is an indigenous plant of China, Japan and Korea. Its roots date back more that 5,000 years. It is thought that it originated in Southeast Asia, where its medicinal uses were cultivated.

Ginger is known to stimulate digestion and relieve nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger also helps to relieve muscle spasms, reduce joint pain, and treat arthritis.

Ginger is often eaten fresh in Thailand. It is sliced into thin strips and then dried before being stored for later use. Ginger root can be purchased in cans or jars at Asian markets.

Which Spices and Herbs are Best Served with Potatoes?

A potato is a great side dish for almost any meat. There are many ways to cook potatoes, other than just mashed.

From salads to casseroles, soups to pasta dishes, these versatile vegetables make tasty additions to most meals. Not only are potatoes great with spices, but so are many herbs and other seasonings.

These delicious recipes can spice up your next potato recipe.

Is Thai cuisine made with garlic?

Thai cuisine makes use of garlic. Garlic is used in Thai cuisine as an ingredient in salads, soups and stir-fries.

Garlic is often fried in Thailand with ginger, shallots, and other spices. Also, you can eat it with sticky white rice.

Garlic is best chopped finely and mixed with oil, chilli paste, fish sauce, lime juice and oil. This mixture is known as Nam Phrik (namphrik). Nam Phrik is often served alongside grilled chicken, beef, or pork.

What is the difference between cooking Whole and Ground Spices? Ground Spices?

There are no differences between cooking with whole spices or ground spices. All spices can be ground once they have been harvested. This ensures that there are no differences in the quality of spices.

However, the price differences are significant. Whole spices are more expensive due to the labour required for processing them. The flavor is well worth the effort.

When you buy bulk spices, you may get additional discounts. An example: If you buy an entire bag full of cinnamon sticks, you might get a discount.

The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. You might be able to save money by buying these spices in bulk.

Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

We recommend buying whole spices because they add flavor to your recipes.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. For chicken dishes, whole coriander seeds can be ground to make a spice blend.

Additionally, spices need to be ground. A large amount of whole spices is a good idea. That way, you won't run out of spices too fast.

What's the importance of spices in your life?

Spices are seasonings that enhance the flavour of food. Spices can come in many forms: powders or liquids, oils, pastes or seeds, as well as liquids and gums. They are also known for their versatility and ability to be used as flavours and condiments.

Spicing up dishes is a great way to add variety to meals. For extra flavor and excitement, you can add many spices to your dishes.

Perhaps a little hot pepper sauce will enhance the flavor of your soup. Perhaps you can add some cayenne peppers to your cup of rice.

Fresh ingredients are best for experimenting with spicing. Look for organic dried herbs when you purchase them. Fresh herbs can last for longer than dried.

Certain spices are essential in cooking. However, you may prefer to avoid some. Cinnamon sticks are high in coumarin so you should avoid them if your liver has been affected. Ginger also has coumarin, although it's less concentrated. It's safe for those without any history of liver problems.

Statistics

  • India contributes to 75% of global spice production. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Their 14 to 20 percent essential oil content means that cloves have the highest concentration of aroma compounds of any spice. (masterclass.com)
  • According to Healthline, pink Himalayan salt is estimated to contain up to 84 minerals and trace elements, which gives the salt its special pink color. (spicecravings.com)

How to cut Shiitake Mushrooms

The shiitakes grow well. There's nothing wrong about them. How do we cut them? We've tried everything. Even the scissors. But they keep slipping out of our hands. What's going on here?

Well, there's a trick for that. To make the mushroom stem stick out, wrap a rubber band around it and twist it tightly. You won't slip, and you won't be cut.

You may think it sounds too easy. It is. However, it is also very efficient.

The rubber band makes it slippery so that it feels natural when you pick up the stem. You can also hold the stem tight.

You can now try it. It will be so much easier to cut mushrooms than ever before.
