Create a classy atmosphere with this Dry Martini, a toast of sophistication and simplicity.
Table of Contents
Let's talk about the Dry Martini. This cocktail, in my opinion, is a cool drink straight from a jazz club. It's a total James Bond zone for our movie lovers. I've shared many of my favorite cocktails on this blog. My list is topped by the dry martini. My first date with the man I am now married to was over these fancy drinks. He chose the classic drink, and I added a cheeky garnish of olives to mine. We were enjoying the romantic atmosphere and chatting away. It felt as if everything was falling into place.
This isn't the first time this blog has discussed martinis. Remember the velvety Espresso Martini, or the zesty Lemon Drop Martini that popped up? If we are talking about simplicity, then the Dry Martini is the winner by a long shot.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Gin Martini can be easily made using only two ingredients. (But don't mistake "simple", which is not the same as "easy". There are subtleties to making a martini).
- The chilled martini will be perfect on those hot days where you need something refreshing, but do not want to stick an umbrella into it.
- You can still enjoy James Bond's drink even if you lack the spy skills. Note that Bond drinks a Vesper Martini which is a slightly different version of the martini you're about to make.
Ingredients
You can choose the ratio of these two ingredients.
- 2 1/2 oz. Gin
- 1/2 oz. Dry vermouth
- Ice
- Use a green olive or a lemon twist as a garnish
Utensils Required
- A cocktail glass is also called a martiniglass
- You can use the bottom of a cocktail glass if you like.
- strainer (if not already built into the shaker) to pour the mix from the shaker in the martini glasses
- Use a barspoon for stirring the mixture
- Use a jigger to measure ingredients
- To create a twist, use a peeleror shar knife (optional)
- Use a toothpick to skewer olive garnishes (optional)
Instrucciones
chill
While you are preparing the cocktail, place the martini glasses in the freezer or fill them with ice water. The drink will stay cold while you are sipping.
Combine
Mix the gin with dry vermouth using a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Add a generous amount ice cubes to the mixture. Stir the drink for 30 seconds or so to chill it and dilute it. The martini will be clearer and less foamy if you stir instead of shake.
Pour
Remove the ice in the martini glasses. Pour the martini mix into the glass using a strainer placed over the cocktail shaker or mixing glass. This will stop any ice or residue entering the glass.
Garnish
If you want a lemon twist then take a piece of lemon peel, twist it around the glass and allow the oils to be released into the drink. The twist can be used to rub the rim of a glass and then dropped into the martini. You can also garnish the martini by using a green toothpick with an olive. If you want something sweeter with a lemon twist try the Bees Knees cocktail!
Tip and Tricks
Select Your Ingredients Carefully: When it comes to creating a Dry Martini, choosing the right gin and dry vermouth are crucial. Choose a high-quality brand of gin, as a great dry vermouth and a killer gin are the basis for an amazing cocktail.
Chill your Martini Glass Do not forget to put the glass in the freezer at least 10 mins before mixing. You can also fill it with water and ice to frost it.
Stir - Don't Shake James Bond may have shaken it on the big screen but a Dry Martini should be stirred. Give it a gentle stir for about 30 seconds and you're done!
The right garnish is important: It doesn't matter if you're on Team Green Olive or Team Lemon Twist, the key to a great finish is getting it just right. Cut a thin lemon slice, and then twist it around the glass. This will release the lovely scent. Drop it into the glass after running it around the rim. To add olives to your cocktail, place one olive on a toothpick. Presentation perfection!
Experiment With Ratios: Everyone's taste is different, so don’t be afraid of playing with the classic ratio 5:1 of gin and dry vermouth. Add more vermouth to get a "wetter Martini"; less vermouth for a drier Martini. Have fun experimenting to find your perfect balance. Cheers, babe!
Variations
Low-Carb Martini: Choose gins and vermouths with lower calories. Add a little olive brine to give it a "dirty", kick, without increasing your carbs.
Perfect martini: It's all about balance. Mix equal parts sweet and dry vermouth (each 1/4 ounce) with 2 1/2 tablespoons of gin. Add a green olive or a lemon twist as a garnish. Perfection in one glass.
Dirty Martini By adding a little olive brine to your Dry Martini, you can make the Dirty Martini. The cloudy appearance is accompanied by a delicious flavor that will keep you coming back. Don't forget the green olives on toothpicks. Yum!
Gibson You can replace your usual garnish with a pickled onion cocktail. This simple addition adds a zesty touch.
Espresso Martini Combine espresso, coffee liqueur and vodka. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled drink. Add a few coffee bean to finish.
FAQs
A Dry Martini typically has between 150 and 180 calories. This isn't too high for a drink. Gin is responsible for most of the calories.
Slowly sip and enjoy the flavor. Drink it cold, in a martini-style glass.
Dry vermouth is used to make the Dry Martini. Dry vermouth doesn't have a sweet taste, which gives the cocktail its signature crisp flavor.
Vodkatini is made by substituting vodka for gin. This drink is a little cleaner but still delicious.
Dry Martinis are best served in the V-shaped martini glasses. The V-shaped martini glass looks great and keeps your drink cool.
The Martini will look velvety smooth and clear when you stir it. Shaking it can make it look cloudy or frothy. Funny that they never mention this in Bond movies...
How to store a Dry Martini
Make Your Dry Martini Ahead: While I recommend making a dry martini fresh, you can also mix the gin with vermouth ahead of time. Pour the mixture into a bottle or container without ice. Put it in the refrigerator to chill. It's important to note that the flavor may change over time.
Storing a Dry Martini Pre-Made: Pour it from the refrigerator into a cocktail shaker or mixing glass filled with ice and give it a good mix for 30 seconds. It will be the perfect dilution and chill. Pour it into a martini, garnish with your choice of garnish and enjoy!
How to make a dry Martini cocktail
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 oz. gin
- 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
- ice cubes
- green olive or lemon twist as a garnish
Instructions
-
While preparing the cocktail, place the martini glasses in the freezer or fill them with ice water. This will keep the cocktail cold.
-
Mix the gin with dry vermouth in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Pour a generous quantity of ice into the glass and make sure they are covering the liquid. Stirring the mixture for 30 seconds will chill the drink and dilute it. The martini will be clearer if you stir instead of shake.
-
Remove the ice in the martini glasses. Pour the martini mix into the glass using a strainer placed over the cocktail shaker or mixing glass. This will stop any ice or residue entering the glass.
-
If you want a lemon twist then take a piece of lemon peel, twist it around the glass and allow the oils to be released into the drink. The twist can be used to rub the rim of a glass and then dropped into the martini. You can also garnish the martini by using a green toothpick with an olive.
Notes
- Dry vermouth is the vermouth type used to make the Dry Martini. Dry vermouth has a taste that is crisp and not overly sweet.
- Dry Martinis are best served in the famous V-shaped Martini Glass. The V-shaped martini glass looks great and keeps your drink cool, so chill the glass before adding your Dry Martini.
- The Martini will look velvety smooth and crystal clear when you stir it. Shaking it can make the martini look cloudy or frothy. This could take away from your unique experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between "regular" and smoked paprika powder?
Regular Paprika Powder (Piment d'Espelette) is an essential ingredient for our recipes. We use it for its intense flavor and color. It's also used as a spice and seasoning agent. Smoked Paprika Powder (Paprika Chorizo) adds a smoky taste and aroma to dishes. Both types of Paprika Powder come from Spain, where they grow the best peppers in the world.
Smoked Paprika Powder (Chorizo Paprika) is made from red peppers, which are dried slowly in special ovens. This gives them a rich flavor. They are then ground and mixed with salt, garlic, and spices.
Regular Paprika Powder (Espelette Paprika) is made by grinding green bell peppers without additives.
What herb heals all wounds?
The answer to this question varies depending on the type and severity of the wound.
The herb comfrey (also known as knitbone) has long been used for its healing properties, particularly for skin injuries such as cuts and bruises.
Studies suggest that comfrey contains allantoin, which helps speed up healing. Other herbs commonly used for healing wounds include calendula, plantain, and yarrow. These herbs help to reduce inflammation, stop bleeding and speed up the skin's healing process.
In addition to herbs, honey has also been found to have powerful antimicrobial properties that can help prevent wound infection.
Herbs for wound care is an age-old practice that continues to be used today. However, herbs should not replace medical treatment, and always consult your doctor before using herbs for healing. With the right herbs, you can give your body the support it needs to heal naturally.
How is basil used for medicinal purposes?
In ancient times, doctors would prescribe basil leaves to treat colds and coughs. Today, basil contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties, making it an ideal remedy for arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, eczema, gout, hay fever, indigestion, migraines, menstrual cramps, sinus infections, sore throats, ulcers, varicose veins, and more.
Basil is also known for its ability to help protect against cancer, heart disease, diabetes, skin conditions, and even aging.
Basil is often referred to as "the herb of grace" because it helps us relax and unwind after stressful situations. It is also said to improve memory and concentration, boost energy levels, increase libido, and enhance athletic performance.
The list goes on and on. Basil is a versatile plant that offers a wide range of benefits for our health and well-being.
Is eating raw basil good for you?
I'm sure everyone knows that fresh herbs are great for cooking but did you know that you could eat them too? Raw, uncooked herbs are packed full of nutrients and vitamins that we normally have to cook.
They contain more antioxidants than any fruit or vegetable. And they also help our immune systems stay strong and healthy.
The best way to enjoy these delicious little green gems is to eat them raw from the garden. But there's nothing wrong with enjoying them cooked, either. They taste even better when sautéed in olive oil and served alongside pasta or rice.
There are lots of ways to incorporate raw herbs into recipes. Add them to salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, omelets, stir-fries, and pesto.
Just make sure you wash them well first!
Should You Use Herbs and Spices for Brain Health?
Herbs and spices have been used for centuries to improve brain health. Research shows that these natural remedies may help prevent dementia and Alzheimer's. Some herbs may even boost memory.
However, no scientific evidence proves that eating an herb-rich diet can keep your mind sharp. When it comes to improving cognitive function, there are more effective ways to do it.
One study found that older adults who took 1000 mg of vitamin B6 daily had fewer mental lapses than those taking placebo pills. Another study showed that drinking coffee could increase blood flow to the brain. Other studies suggest that exercise, socialization, and sleep improve brain health.
The bottom line is that herbs and spices probably won't make much difference to your overall health. But they might give you extra energy and focus, which can come in handy during the day.
Statistics
- The herbs market is highly competitive, with over 1,000 herb suppliers and over 15,000 herbs products available in the United States alone.
- The global herbs market is expected to reach more than $125 billion by the end of 2025.

How To
How to Use Herbs and Spices in Cooking?
Herbs and spices are a great way to add flavor without adding calories. If you've been cooking for years, you already know how easy it is to make even bland foods taste delicious. Try these tips to add more flair to your dishes.
Herbs and spices are essential ingredients in any kitchen. In addition to making food taste better, they also help keep food fresh longer. From enhancing the flavors of soups and sauces to infusing drinks with exotic tastes, herbs and spices go far beyond traditional cooking.
The most important thing to remember when using herbs and spices is to use them sparingly. Even though they may seem like powerful ingredients, they have a strong scent. So, sprinkle them on top instead of piling them onto a dish.
You'll find that the best herbs and spices come in small containers. This makes them easier to measure out, so there won't be any waste. Plus, you'll save money because you won't have to buy large amounts.
Another tip is to avoid placing herbs and spices directly on hot pans. Heat will quickly dry out the herbs and spices, leaving a bitter aftertaste. Instead, place them on paper towels to absorb excess moisture.
Use herbs and spices liberally in recipes where they naturally complement each other. For example, cinnamon pairs well with apples, while garlic complements tomatoes. Once you learn how to combine flavors, you'll be able to create your signature dishes.
Try experimenting with different herbs and spices to spice up meals. For instance, mix thyme, rosemary, oregano, and basil in a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Then toss the mixture with pasta, chicken, or fish.
After the meal, store leftover herbs and spices in airtight jars. This will prevent them from drying out. Also, wrap unused herbs and spices tightly in plastic wrap. They should stay fresh for at least three months.
If you're looking for ways to improve your diet, consider trying new herbs and spices. You can experiment with different blends until you discover your favorite combination. The possibilities are endless!
