This easy recipe for labneh will help you discover Middle Eastern cuisine. This creamy dip can be used as a delicious appetizer or snack.
Table of Contents
Consider a Middle Eastern food tour if you enjoy rich flavors and textures. You will find one dish that stands out above the rest: labneh. It's delicious, easy to make and goes with everything. It can also be eaten as a late-night snack or as an appetizer before your main course. Labneh, being yogurt, could make a tasty dessert. You'll never tire of the versatility of labneh. Spread it on crackers or serve it alongside veggies. Decorate it with fresh herbs.
What is labneh?
It's probably a good idea to start here. Labneh, which is made from yogurt, is creamy and tangy. It's similar to cream cheese, but has a unique taste thanks to the oil and herbs added. The origins of this spread are in the Levant region, which includes Lebanon, Israel Jordan and Palestine. However, its popularity has made it popular around the globe.
You will love this recipe
- Spread it on freshly baked flatbreads or pitas. You can also use it as a topping on salads or grilled meats.
- You can make labneh at home using only two ingredients: yogurt, and salt.
- You can choose any toppings you want.
- Labneh, as explained in the following section, is a healthier alternative to other spreads and dips that are high-calorie and fat.
Is Labneh Healthy?
Labneh, made from yogurt that has been strained, is a healthy food. It is a great source of probiotics and protein, which helps to support healthy digestion. It is rich in calcium, vitamin B12 and phosphorus. This makes it a healthier alternative to other spreads and dips that are higher in calories and fat. It also promotes skin health, as do other dairy products.
Ingredients
What you serve with it is entirely up to you.
- 1 cup Greek yogurt with whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
The Toppings & the Servings:
- Extra virgin olive oil
- mint leaves
- Pita bread
- Red Radish
Instrucciones
Prep
Prepare a cheesecloth and place a strainer over a bowl.
Strain
Bring the edges of the cheesecloth together and scoop the Greek yogurt on top. Place the cheesecloth in the middle of the strain and tie it with a piece of string.
chill
Refrigerate overnight. Transfer the Labneh to a bowl after removing it from the cheesecloth.
Add your favorite toppings or vegetables to the Labneh. Serve as a dip with meats or bread.
DEVOUR!
Variations
The herbs and spices that you add to labneh can create a variety of flavors. You can add paprika and dill to your dip if you want it to taste better. You can add olives, nuts or pickled vegetables to your dip if you want something more substantial.
What can I use labneh for
Labneh, or yogurt with a different consistency, is yogurt that has a changed consistency. You can use it in any recipe that calls for (Greek yogurt). Here are a few of my favorite recipes:
Greek Yogurt Marinated Chicken with Zucchini noodles: The chicken is marinated, along with chia seeds, in lemon juice and labneh. Zucchini noodles can be a healthy alternative to pasta or wheat noodles.
Greek Yogurt Cheesecake The snickerdoodle is grain and gluten free and labneh will replace the cream cheese.
Greek Yogurt and Coffee Overnight Oats This is for breakfast. Labneh really is that versatile! This recipe is easy to make and only requires 5 ingredients.
FAQs
Labneh requires a lot of straining to achieve the desired consistency. Labneh will be runny and loose if you strain it too soon. For a creamy and thick Labneh, I recommend straining yogurt for 12 hours.
You can choose different types of Greek yogurt to achieve different textures and tastes. While low-fat and fat-free yogurts will produce a healthier version of labneh it will lack the thickness and creaminess that you may prefer. Regular yogurt may require a longer straining time due to its high water content.
Consistency is key. It's ready when it changes from a creamy texture to a thick and spreadable texture. It's ready when it keeps its shape in a spoon, or on bread. It usually takes 12-24 hours to strain, depending on the thickness you prefer.
Absolutely! In a variety of recipes, labneh is a great substitute for Greek yogurt, cream cheese or sourcream. It can be added to sauces and dressings or used in desserts and cheesecakes.
How to store Labneh
Transfer the labneh into an airtight container. This will help to keep out unwanted odors and preserve the freshness. The labneh will stay fresh for up to two weeks in the fridge.
If you have larger batches of labneh, they may need to be frozen. Place your labneh in freezer-safe containers or bags (you might want to divide the batch into smaller portions before). The labneh should keep for 6 months. Transfer the labneh to the refrigerator and let it defrost for several hours or overnight. The texture might not be the same as what you remembered, but the flavor will.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are organic beauty items?
Organic Beauty Products do not contain synthetic chemicals like petroleum, parabens or phenoxyethanol. They are made from natural ingredients and don't contain artificial preservatives. These ingredients are present in all conventional beauty products including shampoos and cosmetics.
Organic beauty products do not require animal testing and are free of genetically modified organisms (GMO).
The USDA defines organic food as "a system which fosters cycle of resources"; it has been used for decades by the USDA to describe foods that are grown without pesticides.
Because of the damaging effects of chemical substances on our health, there has been an increase in demand for eco friendly beauty products.
These include cancer, allergies and skin irritation.
Organic beauty companies are committed to creating healthy and safe products for consumers while protecting the environment.
What are organic fruits?
Organic food is free from pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and hormones. They also contain more nutrients, such as vitamins A, C, E, and K, plus omega-3 fatty acids. Organic food is better for the earth and our bodies because of these healthy ingredients.
Organic foods are made using sustainable agricultural practices, which protect soil quality and promote biodiversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.
While most consumers associate organics with produce, many organic products include dairy, meat, poultry, eggs, baked goods, personal care items, pet food, and household cleaning supplies.
"Organic" is defined by the USDA as crops that have been grown following strict guidelines set forth in federal government standards. This means that farmers can't use non-organic methods of growing these foods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.
The farmer must also follow the guidelines for how much fertilizer and insecticide he uses throughout the growing season. He must also rotate his fields among different crops. GMOs, synthetic insecicides, artificial growth hormones or synthetic fertilizers can't be used by farmers.
The requirements for organic fruits and vegetables are met if they are labeled 100 percent organic. But some farms do not label their products as 100% organic because it would confuse consumers. They will instead label their product "made with organic ingredients." "
What is an organic food manufacturer?
Organic food producers produce organic foods that are free from pesticides and other chemical fertilizers. These foods include fruits, veggies, grains, and dairy goods.
When crops are naturally nurtured, organic food production can be achieved. This includes soil preparation, pest controls, and crop rotation.
Organic products must meet certain criteria established by USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) before they can be considered organic.
These guidelines help consumers access healthy, safe and nutritious foods.
Organic foods have higher nutritional content and better flavor, as well as lower pesticide residues.
USDA Organic Products must have the "USDA Certified organic" label.
This certification means the product has met the standards of the National Organic Program.
Organic food helps us eat healthier and also protects the environment.
Organic farming techniques conserve water and land. Organic farming techniques also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contributes to climate change.
Organic agriculture is more sustainable and uses less chemicals.
Because harmful gases such as ammonia or nitrates are less likely in the atmosphere, it also improves air quality.
There are many types to organic farming.
Conventional farming refers to the use of synthetic inputs such as pesticides and fertilizers.
Regenerative farming involves compost, cover crops, and green manures to improve soil health. It also promotes biodiversity.
Agroecology concentrates on the sustainable relationship between people, plants and animals.
Permaculture encourages self sufficiency by designing systems that mirror nature.
Is organic meat more nutritious?
This question is probably answered if you've been paying close attention. The problem is that organic food is increasingly popular, but conventional food continues its decline.
The reason why organic foods continue to rise in popularity is that they are healthier for us. In addition to being safer for our health, organic products also help the environment by reducing pollution and waste.
There are two sides to the coin. Organic produce is more difficult to grow and takes more resources. This means that organic food costs more money than its non-organic counterpart.
Organic meats are typically higher priced than conventionally raised animals. But there are ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality.
Local purchases can help you save money. Locally grown produce helps to keep the prices down because farmers are given incentives to grow healthy crops.
Deals are another way to cut costs. You may be able to get discounts when you buy organics.
You can also save money by eating less meat. Due to the cost of raising livestock, meat production can be expensive.
While there are many reasons organic food is better for our bodies as well as the planet, we must not forget the cost.
Statistics
- As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
- Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)
- When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)
- According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)

How To
Organic food: Are they healthier and better for you?
Organic foods are produced without the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They are grown naturally without artificial inputs such pesticides and herbicides. Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.
The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), established in 2002 to regulate production, handling and processing of organic products sold in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The NOP regulations also require that organic products are free of prohibited substances such as pesticide residues and genetically modified organisms.
The United States offers two certification programs for producers that want their products to be certified organic: one for farmers, ranchers and the other for manufacturers. Both programs require audits of operations each year to ensure that they are meeting strict standards. Many certifying agents offer this service, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers (QA International), American Grassfed Association, and Quality Assurance International. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.
According to USDA’s Economic Research Service, organic farming accounted for $4.7Billion in 2013 sales. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. Sales at grocery stores were up 12 percent during this period. Direct purchases of organic produce saw a 29 percent increase in spending, while seafood, meat, poultry and eggs experienced a 1 percent growth.
Organic food is more expensive but the quality of organic food is worth it. According to a 2015 survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 88 percent of respondents said they would pay more for organic food if it meant higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.
There is no evidence to suggest eating organic foods can treat or prevent any diseases. However, some studies have suggested that they might be beneficial for your health as they may reduce your exposure of pesticides and contaminants. For example, a review of 31 studies published in 2010 concluded that organically raised beef had significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of 11 studies published in 2012 reached similar conclusions.
The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
