These black bean quinoa hamburgers are full of flavour and texture, and they have a nobbly texture with the black beans. They satisfy veggie burger cravings and taste great. These burgers are not meat but that doesn't mean they can't be delicious.

These black bean burgers with quinoa are loved by even my meat-loving fellas. You'll want to keep eating them whether you serve them on a brioche bun, a salad or a soft brioche.

They're not only super easy to make, but also very budget-friendly. You can easily convert them gluten-free by using gluten-free breadcrumbs. They're also naturally gluten-free!

Quinoa Black Bean Burger

These bean burgers have a lot of nutrition thanks to the quinoa. Quinoa, a grain rich in protein, is also an excellent source of zinc and folate.

Black beans contain a lot of antioxidants and plant-based proteins, but also calcium, magnesium manganese copper potassium vitamin B6 quercetin and saponins. Beans are great for your heart.

All that would be -ahem - a hill if these black bean quinoa hamburgers didn't taste great. They are great!

Let's get this list of ingredients done. Although the list of ingredients may seem long, it actually takes more time to collect them than it does to put these together.

  2. Black beans, canned or cooked
  3. Panko Bread Crumbs
  4. Tomato Paste or Best Thing Tomatoes
  5. Olive Oil
  6. Onion
  7. Cilantro or Parsley
  8. Taco Seasoning
  9. Burger buns or lettuce leaves (optional)

You can save time by buying pre-cooked quinoa or canned beans. This recipe for a hearty veggie burger can be made with dried beans and canned quinoa, but shortcuts are available.

You can use gluten-free panko crumbs instead of regular plain bread crumbs. If you don't mind if your black bean vegetarian burgers remain vegetarian, you could substitute crushed pork rinds in the same quantity.

Best Thing tomatoes is my team when it comes to tomato paste. If you do not have them on hand or don't want to make any, a similar amount of tomato paste can be used.

For a few reasons, I prefer to grate the onions for these burgers instead of mincing or dicing. When they are grated, I like how they spread out into the burger.

It also helps a few people in the house who don't like the sight of onions. I also think that the burgers are better held together when the onions are grated.

Taco seasoning is another shortcut I use when I'm in a hurry. If you wish, you can use a mixture of chili powder and cumin with garlic powder, onion, black pepper, chipotle pepper powder, and/or a combination.

Black Bean & Quinoa Burger

This quinoa burger is easy to make and you probably already have the equipment that's needed. Let's take a look at your options.

  1. Mixing Bowl
  2. Measuring cups and Spoons
  3. Box Grutter
  4. Sturdy Spoon (and/or Potato Masher)
  5. Frying pan or Sheet Pan (plus parchment) or Air Fryer
  6. Spatula
  7. Plates

It's okay to use a spoon, as you don’t have to mash them into oblivion. Just break them up. This recipe does not require a food processer.

It's much faster and easier to use a potato mashing machine to smash everything together. It's just a matter of breaking it up to form patties.

For the best crispy edges, I cook these black beans burgers in an oily frying pan. You can also lightly spray them with oil, and then cook them in the oven or air fryer. This printable recipe includes instructions for all three!

You can keep leftovers in the fridge for up to three days in an airtight container. Reheat with a hot oven, frying pan or air fryer!

Black Bean Quinoa Burgers

All ingredients should be added to a large bowl. Use a potato masher, or a sturdy spoon to smash the ingredients together until they hold together when squeezed. Place 8-10 patties on a platter.

How to cook in a frying pan (the preferred method)

Place a fryingpan over medium to medium-high heat, and swirl about 1/4 cup olive oil. Once the oil is shimmering, gently place the black bean patties in the pan.

Unscathed, let them fry for 3 minutes, or until they are crisp and well browned on the bottom. Turn the burgers over gently and cook for 3 minutes on their second side.

How to bake in an oven:

Pre-heat the oven to 350F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Spread the olive oil on both sides of each patty and place them in one layer, with plenty of space between. Cook the burgers for 20-25 minutes, turning them over half way through.

How to Cook in an Air Fryer

Pre-heat the air fryer at 375oF.

Spread olive oil on both sides of each patty and place them in an air fryer basket, in one layer. It may be necessary to make more than one batch.

Flip the burgers gently after 3 to 4 minutes. Continue to air fry the burgers for 3 to 4 more minutes.

To Serve and Store

Choose your favorite condiments and serve on buns, lettuce leaves or with your choice. Keep leftovers in a refrigerator airtight container up to three days.
