Frequently Asked Questions
Does organic mean it is pesticide-free?
Organic food does not contain pesticides or chemicals and is therefore chemical-free. This means that organic food is not exposed to pesticides or fertilizers.
Because organic produce does not contain harmful additives it has more nutrients that conventionally produced foods.
The USDA National Organic Program, (NOP), requires farmers to adhere to strict guidelines when cultivating organic crops.
These guidelines include soil preparation and crop rotation, pest management, water conservation, as well as harvesting practices.
Organic farming techniques also contribute to healthy ecosystems that benefit wildlife as well as natural habitats.
Are organic foods healthy?
There are two types. Those we grow or those we get from someone else. Of course, there are exceptions to both categories, but for the most part, the answer to your question is yes. Organic food is healthier since it doesn't include any harmful chemicals.
Organic food can be found in supermarkets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.
Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Organics can be grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. This ensures that organics do not pollute our soil or water supply.
The USDA regulates organic farming practices. It requires that farmers follow strict guidelines in order to ensure organic produce is safe for consumption. There are more than 30 million acres of US farmland that have been certified organic.
Organic food is often less expensive than conventional food. For the same amount, consumers pay less. Organic farms can charge less for their crop because they aren’t required to buy expensive chemical inputs.
According to the Environmental Working Group organic food is 10 percent cheaper per pound than conventionally manufactured food. If you care about the health of yourself and your family, consider switching to organic food.
Organic food has become an increasingly popular alternative to American standard diets. While many believe organic food can only come from specialty markets and fine dining restaurants, it is not true. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.
In recent years, organic food sales have been on the rise. In 2012, the US market value for organic food was $43 Billion. This is an increase of $21 Billion from 2007.
Is organic meat more nutritious?
If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. The problem is that organic food is increasingly popular, but conventional food continues its decline.
The reason why organic foods continue to rise in popularity is that they are healthier for us. Organic products are not only safer for our health but also reduce pollution and waste.
However, there are also two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes more time to grow and requires greater resources. This means organic food will cost more than its non-organic counterpart.
Organic meats can be more expensive that those from conventionally raised animals. But, you can reduce the cost of organic meats without compromising quality.
Buy locally to save money. Buying locally grown fruits and vegetables helps keep prices low because farmers receive incentives to grow healthy crops.
A great way to save money is to search for deals. When you purchase organics, there are often discounts.
You can also save money by eating less meat. Feeding livestock can be very expensive.
While there are many reasons organic food is better for our bodies as well as the planet, we must not forget the cost.
Why should organic be my first choice?
There have been many health problems linked to conventional farming, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer, birth defects and hormone imbalances. Healthy choices must be made when purchasing food.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:
Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.
USDA organic labels are required for meat, poultry, eggs and milk.
Avoid processed foods labelled "natural"/ "no additives."
Check ingredient lists carefully. It is possible to add an ingredient during processing if it isn't already listed.
Choose fresh meats over frozen or canned ones. Canned and frozen foods can often have lower nutritional content like high fructose syrup.
What are the benefits of organic fruits?
Organic foods are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, or antibiotics. Organic foods contain more nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty oils. These ingredients are good for our bodies as well as the planet.
Organic foods are made using sustainable agricultural practices, which protect soil quality and promote biodiversity. They are free from harmful chemicals, radiation, and sewage sludge.
While most consumers associate organics with produce, many organic products include dairy, meat, poultry, eggs, baked goods, personal care items, pet food, and household cleaning supplies.
The USDA defines organic as crops grown in accordance with strict federal regulations. Farmers cannot use conventional (non-organic) methods to grow these foods. However, they can use approved organic pest control methods like crop rotation and covering cropping or animal feed made with organic materials.
A farmer must also adhere to guidelines about how much fertilizer or pesticide he applies during the growing season. Also, he must rotate his fields between different crops. GMOs (genetically modified organisms), synthetic growth hormones and insecticides as well as synthetic fertilizers are prohibited by farmers.
Fruits and vegetables labelled "100% organic" meet all the requirements above. But, not all farms label their produce as 100% organic. It would confuse consumers. They will instead label their product "made with organic ingredients." "
What are organic products that can be used on the skin?
Organic skincare products contain no synthetic chemicals, including parabens. Phthalates, mineral oil. Petroleum jelly. Propylene glycol. sodium lauryl.sulphate. Talc. triclosan. Titanium dioxide. triethanolamine. vitamin A palmitate.
Organic skincare products don't contain artificial colours or fragrances.
They are designed to promote healthy skin, prevent premature wrinkles, heal injuries after they happen, and support overall wellbeing.
These are some standard terms you might come across when shopping for organic items:
- Paraben Free: These are chemicals that keep certain cosmetic products stable. However, they can be toxic if used in large quantities.
- Fragrance-Free: The product is free of essential oils or fragrances.
- Cruelty-Free: No animals were hurt during manufacturing.

How To
5 Reasons Why You Should Buy Organic Products
Organic food is grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. They do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or radioactive ingredients. Their production processes do not include sewage or industrial solvents. During the growth process, food is kept clean from any contamination. It is free from artificial additives and preservatives. There are no hormones and antibiotics used. They are also made in conditions that maintain their nutritional value and freshness for longer times.
- Health benefits. Nonorganic produce is more chemically-laden than organic. This makes it less likely to cause allergies or sensitivities. This means you're also consuming less toxic and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Produce grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizer needs very little water. Organic farms are often located far from areas with high levels of pollution because it takes so much energy for conventional agriculture to grow. This helps to reduce air pollution.
- Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility rather than chemical fertilizers; this results in healthier soils with higher levels of organic matter. Farmers should rotate crops and let the land go bare periodically to improve soil health. Farm animals that eat only grasses, grains and no antibiotics develop strong immune systems.
- Taste. Traditional fruits and vegetables are often bland due to the fact that they are picked at peak ripeness and shipped long distances for grocery stores. Organic produce is more rich and sweetened because it was harvested when it was still unripe.
- Nutrition. GMOs and BPA can be found in many processed foods. If you want to avoid these, stick to whole foods such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fruit, veggies, and herbs.
