What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This guarantee that the product has met specific standards set forth by USDA. On packages, boxes, cartons or cans, look out for the USDA Organic seal.

When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens can eat both plants as well as animals. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Just like ruminants, dairy cows also have four stomachs. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.
