Frequently Asked Questions
What are organic fruits?
Organic foods are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, or antibiotics. They are also richer in nutrients like vitamins C, E, K, and omega-3 fat acids. These ingredients are good for our bodies as well as the planet.
Organic foods are made using sustainable agricultural practices, which protect soil quality and promote biodiversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.
Although organics are most commonly associated with produce, organics can also be found in dairy, meats, poultry, eggs and baked goods.
According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. This means that farmers can't use non-organic methods of growing these foods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.
The farmer must also follow the guidelines for how much fertilizer and insecticide he uses throughout the growing season. He must also rotate his fields among different crops. GMOs, artificial growth hormones, synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are not allowed in the fields of farmers.
The requirements for organic fruits and vegetables are met if they are labeled 100 percent organic. However, some farms won't claim that their products are 100% organic. This would confuse the consumers. Instead, they will label the product as "made from organic ingredients". "
Which organic products are most in demand?
Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. However, we still have a lot to learn from our roots.
Organic products are the future. They are safer, healthier for the environment, and easier to afford for consumers.
But they tend to be more expensive. This is why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to find out which foods are most popular with shoppers today, and whether these trends are changing.
The results of the study show that organic food has become more popular. Between 2011 & 2012, almost half of Americans purchased organic food.
The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.
Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), average retail prices for organic food are almost double those of conventional alternatives.
Organic food is growing faster that any other sector of the food industry. You'll notice that organic food consumption has increased steadily since 2009.
According to OTA however, the volume in supermarkets of organic products grew by 14% from 2010 to 2011.
This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.
The younger generation is however leading the charge for organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. And young adults under 35 years old account for 25% of all organic food purchases.
What are organic products that can be used on the skin?
Organic skincare products contain no synthetic chemicals, including parabens. Phthalates, mineral oil. Petroleum jelly. Propylene glycol. sodium lauryl.sulphate. Talc. triclosan. Titanium dioxide. triethanolamine. vitamin A palmitate.
Organic skincare products do not contain artificial colours, fragrances or preservatives.
They are designed to promote healthy skin, prevent premature wrinkles, heal injuries after they happen, and support overall wellbeing.

Do organic foods have health benefits?
Even though organic foods might not be for everyone, there are some health benefits. But for those who eat them regularly, there are definite health benefits.
Organic food does not contain artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also doesn't contain fungicides. Organic produce is produced without the use of harmful chemicals which could affect human health.
The use of additives in the processing process is also less common. You're more likely to eat organic products than you are non-organic.
Studies show that organic foods contain more nutrients and antioxidants than conventionally grown fruits and vegetables.
Even though organic farming methods can be more costly than conventional farming methods they are often more productive. Organic farming encourages soil fertility and biodiversity.
This helps prevent erosion and conserve water. Organic farms don't use toxic chemicals and require less fuel and energy.
People are worried that organic foods may be more expensive then conventional. However, prices can vary depending upon where you live. For example, organic apples tend to be more expensive than traditional apples.
But if you look at the total price of a basket of both types of fruit, you'll see that buying organic is cheaper.
Should you buy organic?
It depends on you. Organic food is not for you if you don’t like it.
Organic food is available if you are a fan of good food. Organic food is safer because organic produce is not grown by commercial growers who use pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Inorganic foods are meats, fishes, eggs, buttermilk, cheese, yogurt and honey as well as vegetables, fruits and spices.
Organic refers to how an agricultural product was grown. For example, organic farming uses natural methods and soil amendments to grow crops, while conventional farming uses synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines must be followed when organic food is labeled. The National Organic Program Standards state that organic food must be freed from banned substances like antibiotics, growthhormones, genetically altered organisms (GMOs) and industrial solvents. Additionally, organic food must be raised without toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers, sewage sludges, or ionizing radiation.
Why is organic food important
Organic produce is important for our health. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. It is healthier for us than any pesticides or fertilizers and it is also more eco-friendly.

Because of this, organic foods are so important. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.

How To
Organic food: Are they healthier and better for you?
Organic foods are made without the use or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown under natural conditions without artificial inputs such as fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic farming practices include crop rotation, cover crops, composting animal manure, recycling wastewater, and integrated pest management (IPM).
In 2002, USDA National Organic Programs (NOP) were established to regulate the production and handling of organic products that are sold in the United States. NOP regulations make sure that organic agricultural product conforms to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.
In the U.S., there are two types of certification programs available for producers who want their products labelled "organic": one for farmers and ranchers and another for manufacturers. Both programs require that operations are audited annually to verify compliance with the strict standards. Several certifying agents offer these services, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers, Quality Assurance International, and the American Grassfed Association. Each of these organizations provides third-party verification to verify that farms are following strict guidelines in regards to environmental stewardship, labour practices and care for livestock.
According to USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), organic agriculture accounted in 2013 for $4.7 Billion in sales. Retail spending on certified organic products reached nearly $1.5 Billion in 2013. This is a 23 per cent increase from 2009. The number of grocery stores that sold organic products increased 12 percent over the same period. Direct purchases of organic produce saw a 29 percent increase in spending, while seafood, meat, poultry and eggs experienced a 1 percent growth.
Organic food is more expensive, but consumers believe its quality is worth the extra cost. According to a 2015 survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 88 percent of respondents said they would pay more for organic food if it meant higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also reported that organic food intake is associated with fewer health problems, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Even though there is no evidence organic foods cause or treat diseases, some studies show that they can improve overall health by reducing pesticide and other contaminants exposure. For example, a review of 31 studies published in 2010 concluded that organically raised beef had significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally raised beef. Similar results were also reached by a separate analysis of 11 2012 studies.
The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. The group also noted that the incidence of human illnesses due to E. coli O157 declined among children and adults after 2006, when the USDA started requiring more stringent organic standards for animals raised for consumption.
