Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. Organic meat is also a guarantee that the animals weren’t fed any genetically altered feed. Because there are no harmful chemicals in the meat, it is safe for human consumption.

Organic meats are good for the environment. Organic foods reduce pollution in rivers, lakes and landfills. Organic farmers are less likely to use toxic chemicals to kill birds or insects. This helps protect wildlife.

The best way to ensure that you eat healthy organic meats is to buy them locally whenever possible. Local purchasing helps keep money local, not out of the state. Local businesses often pass down savings to customers when they shop locally. Shopping locally keeps American jobs in America, rather than sending them abroad.

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

Make sure you only buy chicken from chicken farms that are fed organically and have never been given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens eat both animals and plants. A digestive tract that is omnivorous includes a crop, proventriculus and gizzard. It also contains small intestines, large intestines, and anus.

When buying dairy products, ensure they come from cows fed 100% organically grown feed. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. Milk comes from the fourth stomach compartment--the udder.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. For example, pork may be labelled '95% organic.' This means 95 percent of the pig's feed came from organic sources.

Is organic food healthier?

There are two types: foods that we grow and those that we purchase from others. There are exceptions to these categories, but most people will answer your question yes. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.

There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Many grocery stores now sell organic food. This makes it easier for customers to select organic products.

Organic food is better tasting and healthier because it contains more vitamins and minerals. In addition, organics are usually grown without applying synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, which means they do not pollute our soil and water supply.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are currently over 30 million acres of US farmland certified as organic.

Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms are free to charge less for their crops, as they don't need to pay expensive chemical inputs such insecticides orfungicides.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), organic food actually costs 10% less per pound. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.

Organic food is a popular choice to traditional American cuisines. It is often believed that organic food is exclusive to specialty markets and gourmet restaurants. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. Organic food market value in the US increased from $21 billion to $43 billion in 2007 to reach $43 billion in 2012.

What Organic Foods Are You Looking For?

Organic foods are produced from plants and animals that have been grown without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers or other additives. They are not subject to genetic engineering or the use of ionizing radioactive radiation. It must not contain any artificial colours, flavour enhancers, flavor enhancers, and preservatives. It must not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The term "organic", as it is commonly known, was first used by Justus von Loig in 1845. He coined the phrase "organisch", which means life-giving, to describe manure's properties. Nowadays, most people associate the term organic with the production of food. In this context, organic means that the product contains only naturally occurring substances such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and minerals that occur in nature.

Globally, organic product consumption has increased significantly over the last decade. Recent statistics indicate that approximately half of the world’s population eats at least one organic food per day. This number increases constantly and is expected to reach 70%, 80%, and 90% by 2020.

There are many reasons why consumers choose organic products. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. However, there are also ethical concerns regarding the treatment of farm workers and animals, which is why some consumers opt for non-organic products.

Organic food tends to be more expensive that conventional foods, but prices can vary depending upon the country or region. There are many factors that affect the cost of organic food. The availability of suitable land for organic agriculture is one factor. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming. Transport costs, marketing costs and taxes are also important. In Europe, for instance, the average price for organic food in Europe is 10% higher than its regular price.

Below is a summary of the major differences between organic food and conventional food.

  • Organic produce does not contain any chemicals, hormones or antibiotics.
  • Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
  • Organic milk is produced by cows who eat a diet consisting of pasture grasses and hay.
  • All raw materials used in organic manufacturing are certified organic.
  • Organic fruits and veggies are grown and processed without pesticides and other harmful chemicals.
  • Organic meats, poultry, and seafood don't require radiation.
  • Before using raw nuts or seeds, they must be soaked.
  • Only healthy oils are used in organic cooking.
  • Organic eggs are laid outdoors by hens.
  • Honey is extracted using traditional methods by bees.
  • Organic chocolate uses sugar and beans that have been grown and processed organically.
  • Organic wines do not contain any chemical additives.
  • Organic tea leaves are made from hand-picked plants.
  • Organic cotton can be grown without pesticides or herbicides.
