How can you tell organic food from non-organic?

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

USDA-certified organic labels should be sought. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. On all packages, boxes and cartons, look for the USDA Organic seal.

When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.

When buying chicken, make sure it comes only from chickens fed 100% organic feed and never given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens can eat both plants as well as animals. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive system that includes a crop (proventriculus), gizzard and small intestine.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.


Is organic produce healthy?

There are two types. Those we grow or those we get from someone else. There are exceptions to these categories, but most people will answer your question yes. Organic food is healthier because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, or genetically modified organisms (GMO).

You can find organic food in supermarkets across North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Many grocery stores now sell organic food. This makes it easier for customers to select organic products.

A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.

Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.


How do I find out if my produce's organic?

If you want to make sure that you are buying organic produce, look for these three labels:

USDA Organic Certified – This certification is issued by USDA to ensure that the product is 100% organic.

Certified Naturally Grown - Produce that has passed strict requirements for organic practices but has not yet received certification from the USDA.

Pastured/Free-range - Made from animals that graze on grass and herbs outdoors.

These labels are used to indicate that the product meets specified criteria.
