Frequently Asked Questions
How can you tell if food is organic?
If you ask any chef, he'll tell you there's nothing more important than fresh ingredients. It's because we feel better when food is well-prepared.
This holds true for our food. Organics can be traced back to their source and whereabouts. We also know that it wasn't treated with harmful chemicals.
Organic food is produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. These substances are not permitted to organic farmers.
But that doesn't mean there isn't an art to growing organic crops. There are plenty of ways to grow them safely.
Organic farming is often called sustainable agriculture. This means that while it uses fewer resources than conventional methods, it provides the necessary nutrients to sustain life.
Organic farming practices include crop rotation, composting manure, cover cropping, and intercropping. These practices help to prevent soil erosion and improve water purity.
They reduce chemical runoff from waterways. Because most people live in urban areas, it is easy to find farms that grow organic produce.
There are two types certified programs for organic products. One is certified through the USDA National Organic Program and the other by independent certifying agents. Both require strict adherence to organic standards.
USDA seals and O Seals are symbols that indicate organic certification.
What are natural beauty products?
Organic Beauty Products don't contain synthetic chemicals such as parabens. These ingredients are found in most conventional beauty products, including cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, etc.
Organic beauty products do not require animal testing and are free of genetically modified organisms (GMO).
The USDA defines the term' organic' as "a system of production that fosters cycling of resources" and has been used for decades to describe foodstuffs grown without pesticides.
The harmful effects of chemical compounds on our bodies have led to an increase in the demand for ecofriendly beauty products.
These include skin irritations, cancer, hormonal imbalance, premature aging, and allergies.
Organic beauty companies work to create safe and healthy products for their customers while also protecting the environment.
How do I know if my produce is organic?
If you want to make sure that you are buying organic produce, look for these three labels:
USDA Organic Certified - Produce certified by the USDA as being 100% organic.
Certified Naturally Grown - Produce that has passed strict requirements for organic practices but has not yet received certification from the USDA.
Pastured/Free Range - Produce from animals who live outdoors and graze freely on grass and herbs.
These labels indicate that the product meets certain criteria.
- There are no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers
- There are no genetically modified organisms
- The animal is never given antibiotics
- Animals are not ever given hormones.
- No growth-promoting drug
- No feed additives
- No artificial ingredients
- No irradiation
- No sewage effluent
- GMOs are not allowed
- Never gave antibiotics
- No hormones ever given
- No growth-promoting medications
- No feed-additives
- No artificial ingredients
- No sewage solids (if it's not GMO).

Which organic products are most in demand?
Organic food is the fastest-growing industry today. Even though we have come a long ways from our roots there is still plenty of room for growth.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.
But they tend to be more expensive. That's why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted the ability to identify which foods are currently most popular and whether these trends have changed.
These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011 & 2012, almost half of Americans purchased organic food.
The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.
Organic food is certainly on the rise but consumers are still not able to afford it. According to the Organic Trade Association OTA, organic food retail prices are about twice those of conventional products.
That said, organic food is growing faster than any other segment of the food sector. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.
In fact, according to OTA, the volume of organic products sold in supermarkets grew by 14% between 2010 and 2011.
This is because of consumer demand for healthier products, which explains the rise in organic food sales across all age categories.
However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely than baby boomers to buy organic foods. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.

How To
How to save money on organic meat
In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.
Here are some tips to help you find low-cost organic meats. Also, how much per pound they cost. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.
To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.
- Wholesale clubs - Sams Club, Costco, and Sams Club offer great deals on bulk foods like chicken breasts. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). This way, you won't waste any meat. Also, if you buy in bulk, it can be frozen so it lasts for longer.
- Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. You can get discounts on ground beef, beef roasts, lamb steaks and pork loins. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
- Local farmers often charge less than big box retailers due to the fact that they don't have large overheads for stocking their shelves. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- You should look for the leanest cuts of meat. Lean meat is typically cheaper to cook than fatty. Look for the tiniest cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
- Explore new recipes. Don't be afraid of trying new things. Start cooking with ingredients that you have never used before. This is one of the easiest ways reduce your grocery costs. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- You can be creative with leftovers. If you have leftover poultry or meat, you can use them to make sandwiches, soups and casseroles. For quick lunches, leftover meat can be used to make dinners.
There you have it! That's my list of tips on how to afford organic meat even though you're on a budget. Do you have other tips? What other tips do you have for me?
