Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic beef?

Organic meat refers to real food grown without the use artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or hormones. Organic meat also indicates that animals were not fed genetically modified food. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. The pollution levels in our environment are reduced when we eat organic foods. We also help protect wildlife because organic farmers usually do not use toxic chemicals that kill insects and birds.

Buy organic meats whenever possible. This is the best way for you to eat healthy, organic meats. Local shopping helps keep more money in your community than it does out of state. Local businesses often pass down savings to customers when they shop locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

Why is organic food important

Organic produce is vital for our health. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops without harmful chemicals. This means fewer environmental pollutants, making it safer for humans and animals. By choosing organic food, you are protecting the planet as well as yourself.

But organic food offers more than just health benefits. We are all well aware of how harmful processed food can make our bodies feel. Organic fruits and vegetables aren’t subject to chemicals spray. It means that organic fruits and vegetables taste better, last longer, and are brighter.

This is why organic food is so important. Because it's not only healthy for you, it's healthier for the world.

What should I look out for when buying organic products?

USDA-certified organic labels should be sought. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Ruminants are cattle that chew their cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Just like ruminants, dairy cows also have four stomachs. Milk comes from the fourth stomach compartment--the udder.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.

Statistics

  • Popular clothing brands, like Patagonia, are labelled as organic by using 100 percent organic cotton for many of their styles. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids were up to 50 percent higher in organic meats and milk than in conventionally raised products.[3] (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

What you need to know about organic foods

Organic foods are plants and animals grown without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or additives. They are not subject to genetic engineering or the use of ionizing radioactive radiation. It must not contain any artificial colours, flavour enhancers, flavor enhancers, and preservatives. It must not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The term "organic" was first used in 1845 when chemist Justus von Liebig coined the word "organisch" meaning life-giving, to describe the properties of manure. Most people associate organic with food production. Organic simply means the product is made from only naturally occurring substances such proteins, carbohydrate, and minerals.

Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. According to statistics, approximately 50% of the world’s population consumes at minimum one organic product each day. This number is rising and is expected increase to 70%, 90%, and 80% by 2020.

There are many reasons that organic products are chosen by consumers. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. There are ethical concerns regarding farm workers and animals. This is why some people choose organic products.

Organic foods are usually more expensive than conventional ones, although prices vary depending on countries and regions. There are different factors influencing the price of organic food. One factor is whether there are enough land available for organic farming. Another is the cost of inputs and labour needed for organic cultivation. Transport costs, marketing costs and taxes are also important. In Europe, for example, organic food prices are 10% more than regular food.
