Organic foods are grown using sustainable farming practices that preserve soil quality and encourage biological diversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.
Most people associate organics with fruits, but organic products also include dairy, meat and poultry, as well as baked goods, personal care items, pet food and household cleaning supplies.
"Organic" is defined by the USDA as crops that have been grown following strict guidelines set forth in federal government standards. Farmers cannot use conventional (non-organic) methods to grow these foods. However, they can use approved natural methods to control pests, like crop rotation and cover crops, or animal feed made of organic materials.
Further, the farmer must be careful about the amount of pesticide and fertilizer he uses in the growing season. GMOs, synthetic insecicides, artificial growth hormones or synthetic fertilizers can't be used by farmers.
Fruits and vegetables labelled "100% organic" meet all the requirements above. Some farms don't label their products 100% organic, as it could confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "

How to buy organic meat even on a tight budget
This post will share some tips and tricks to help you buy organic meat without breaking the bank.
Here are some tips to help you find low-cost organic meats. Also, how much per pound they cost. You will be able to make the most of what you have purchased.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.
- Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. If you are fortunate enough to live near one, you may be able get discounts up to 50 lbs on large quantities. This will ensure that you don't waste any meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
- Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. It is easy to browse their website and check out what is on offer at different times.
- Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Because they know exactly the diets and drinks of their animals, local farmers can provide a better understanding of what's inside.
- Look out for cuts that are the leanest. It's generally less expensive to cook lean meat than fatty. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. The most common ones are sirloin steak, tenderloin roast, top round steak, and flank steak. These cuts are very low in fat and high in protein.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. It's possible to reduce grocery expenses by cooking new recipes using ingredients you've never tried before. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. Leftover meat is perfect for making quick lunches or dinners.
There you have it! Here are some tips on how you can afford organic meat despite being on a strict budget. What other tips do you have? Have any other tips for me about where to buy cheap meat?
