Frequently Asked Questions

Why is organic food so important?

For our health, organic produce is crucial. It's the best method to ensure you eat healthy foods. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming relies on natural methods to cultivate crops, without the use of harmful chemicals. This results in fewer environmental pollutants and makes organic farming safer. You are helping the planet and yourself by choosing organic food.

The benefits of organic food go beyond our health, though. We all know the negative effects that processed foods can have on our health. Organic fruits and vegetables aren’t subject to chemicals spray. They taste fresher, look better and last longer.

Because of this, organic foods are so important. Because it's not only healthy for you, it's healthier for the world.

What is an inorganic food?

Organic food does not use pesticides or fertilizers. These chemicals can cause health problems in organic foods.

Organic food can be grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides herbicides, fungicides, and other harmful substances. These chemicals may cause damage to animals as well as humans.

Inorganic foods include meat, fish and eggs, dairy, butter, yogurts, honey, yogurt, honey, grains and vegetables, as well as spices, herbs, fruits, and spices.

The term organic refers to the way an agricultural product is grown. Organic farming employs natural methods and soil amendments for growing crops. Conventional agriculture uses pesticides or fertilizers.

Foods labeled as organic must meet strict guidelines by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the National Organic Program Standards all organic food must be free of banned materials such as antibiotics growth hormones genetically modified organisms GMOs, and industrial solvents. Organic food must also be free from toxic chemicals, petroleum based fertilizers, sewage effluents and ionizing radiation.

Are organic foods better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. The Environmental Working Group found that organic apples contained eight-times less pesticides than other non-organic fruits, and organic strawberries had fourfold more than their conventional counterparts.

Research has also suggested that organic food may reduce mercury and lead exposure. A study concluded that children who ate organic meat had 33% lower levels of blood lead than those who didn’t. A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.

Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.

How To

What happens to your body if you switch to organic products

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They come only from natural sources of water and free-range animals. The term "organic" means they do not contain any chemicals or additives. This product was made from natural materials and is free of harmful substances.

The term "natural" refers to how food is grown. It's used to describe foods that have not been altered into their final form (e.g. fruits). Natural foods are more fresh than other foods because they have not been subject to heat, radiation or chemical preservatives. However, some people believe natural doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Experts agree that organic and conventional foods are very similar. Both types of food have been tested for safety and quality. But organic produce has fewer pollutants and pesticide residues than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores offer organic options. If you are looking for organic meat, poultry and eggs, check with your local grocery store. Some companies offer only organic products while others have separate sections. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.

These foods should be avoided by women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Pesticides have been shown to harm infants and unborn babies.
