According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.

This is due to consumer demand for healthier food, which explains why organic foods sales are rising across all age groups.

Are organic foods healthier?

According to the Environmental Working Group’s latest report on pesticide residues, organic fruits/vegetables had nearly half as many pesticides than non-organic. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. A study concluded that children who ate organic meat had 33% lower levels of blood lead than those who didn’t. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.

Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

What is organic meat exactly?

Organic meat is organic food that has been grown naturally without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or hormones. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are healthier for our environment. Eating organic foods helps reduce pollution in the environment, such as rivers and lakes. We also help protect wildlife because organic farmers usually do not use toxic chemicals that kill insects and birds.

The best way to ensure that you eat healthy organic meats is to buy them locally whenever possible. Local shopping helps keep more money in your community than it does out of state. Local businesses often offer discounts to their customers by shopping locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

Why should I go organic?

There have been many health problems linked to conventional farming, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer, birth defects and hormone imbalances. It is important to make informed choices about food purchases.

Here are some tips from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.

Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.

Avoid processed foods that are labeled "natural" or "no added ingredients."

Always read the ingredient lists. If an ingredient isn’t listed, it might be added during processing.

It is better to eat fresh meats than canned or frozen. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

Is organic food healthier?

There are two types, those we grow our own and those we purchase from another source. There are exceptions to these categories, but most people will answer your question yes. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.

There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Organic food is now available in most grocery stores, making it easier to find organic foods.

Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. In addition, organics are usually grown without applying synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, which means they do not pollute our soil and water supply.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices and requires farmers to follow strict guidelines to ensure that organic produce is safe to eat. There are currently over 30 million acres of US farmland certified as organic.

Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. For the same amount, consumers pay less. Organic farms can charge less for their crop because they aren’t required to buy expensive chemical inputs.

According to the Environmental Working Group Organic food is actually 10 percent more expensive per pound than conventionally grown food. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.

Organic food is a popular choice to traditional American cuisines. Organic food is not only available in gourmet restaurants and specialty markets, as many people may believe. Organic food can be purchased in most grocery stores across the United States.

The sales of organic food have increased dramatically in recent years. The US market value of organic foods was $43Billion in 2012, up from $21B in 2007.

Why is organic food important?

For our health, organic produce is crucial. It's the best method to ensure you eat healthy foods. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming relies on natural methods to cultivate crops, without the use of harmful chemicals. This makes organic farming safer for both humans and animals. Organic food is a way to help the environment and protect yourself.

Organic food has many benefits that go beyond health. We all know how unhealthy processed foods can make us feel. Did you know that organic fruits and veggies aren't subject to chemical spray? They taste fresher, look better and last longer.

Organic food is so important. Organic is healthy for your health and for the environment.

How To

Organic food: Are they healthier and better for you?

Organic foods are made without the use or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown naturally without artificial inputs such pesticides and herbicides. Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.

In 2002, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), was established to regulate the sale, purchase, labelling, production, and distribution of organic products in the United States. NOP regulations make sure that organic agricultural product conforms to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Furthermore, the NOP rules require organic products to be free of banned substances such as pesticides residues and growth hormones.

Two types of certification programs are available in the United States for producers who wish to have their products labeled organic. One is for farmers and ranchers; one is for manufacturers. Both programs require audits of operations each year to ensure that they are meeting strict standards. These services are offered by several certifying agencies, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers and Quality Assurance International. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), organic agriculture accounted in 2013 for $4.7 Billion in sales. That year, retail spending on certified organic products totalled nearly $1.5 billion, representing a 23 percent increase since 2009. During this time, grocery store sales increased by 12 percent. Spending on organic produce was up 29 percent, but only 1 percent on meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy.

While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. According to a 2015 survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 88 percent of respondents said they would pay more for organic food if it meant higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.

Even though there is no evidence organic foods cause or treat diseases, some studies show that they can improve overall health by reducing pesticide and other contaminants exposure. A review of 31 studies that were published in 2010 found that organically raised beef has significantly lower levels than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group released a report in 2014 that analyzed data from USDA's Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. They found that there was a decrease in foodborne illness due to E.coli, salmonella, listeria moncytogenes or campylobacter. The group also observed that E.coliO157 is a less prevalent cause of illness in humans among children than adults. This was because the USDA has imposed stricter organic standards on animals raised for human consumption.
