Frequently Asked Questions

Why is organic food so important?

It is essential for our health to eat organic produce. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming relies on natural methods to cultivate crops, without the use of harmful chemicals. This makes organic farming safer for both humans and animals. Organic food is a way to help the environment and protect yourself.

Organic food has many benefits that go beyond health. We all know how bad processed food can make us feel. But did you know that most organic fruits and vegetables aren't treated with chemical spray either? This means they are more fresh tasting, last longer and look better.

That's why eating organic matters so much. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.

What are the top organic vegetables?

Organic vegetables provide the most healthy and nutritious food for people. They are among the most nutritious foods on Earth.

Organic produce is organically grown without pesticides. These chemicals pose severe dangers to our health as well as the environment.

Organic produce also has more nutrients, vitamins minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients. They also contain more fibre, essential fatty acids, enzymes, fiber, and enzymes. This makes them more healthy because organic produce absorbs nutrients better.

Not only do organic vegetables taste delicious, but they are also safe to eat. Organic produce does not have side effects.

Organic fruits and vegetables can be found at all grocery stores. As long as they are produced according to USDA guidelines (which means they meet the standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture), they are labelled "organic." If you cannot find organic produce at your local grocery store, check out online retailers such as Amazon or Walmart.

What are organic foods?

Organic produce can be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops can be grown naturally by farmers, and they don't need to be treated with chemicals to control pests or weeds.

Organic farming practices preserve soil quality and help conserve water resources. Organics have more nutrients than traditional food, which makes them better for our health. Organic products are typically higher in fiber and lower in fat and calories than conventionally produced ones.

Why should organic be my first choice?

Conventional agriculture has been linked with many health problems including asthma, allergies. You must make healthy choices when buying food.

The Environmental Working Group offers these tips:

Buy organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible.

USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.

Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."

Check ingredient lists carefully. If an ingredient doesn't appear on the list, it could be added to the product during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Cans and frozen foods are often less nutritious than fresh meats, such as high fructose corn syrup.

Is organic meat healthier?

If you have been paying attention for long enough, you will probably know the answer. The problem is that organic food is increasingly popular, but conventional food continues its decline.

Organic foods are more appealing because they are healthier. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

There are many sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more resources to do so. Organic food is generally more expensive than nonorganic.

Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. But, you can reduce the cost of organic meats without compromising quality.

Buy local to save money. Locally grown fruit and vegetables help lower the price of produce, as farmers are often given incentives to grow better crops.

A great way to save money is to search for deals. Many organic products can be purchased at a discount.

Another way to save money? Eat less meat. Due to the cost of raising livestock, meat production can be expensive.

Organic food is healthier for the planet and our bodies than conventional food, but it's important to not overlook its cost.

How To

Organic foods: Are they healthier and more nutritious than conventional food?

Organic foods are grown without the use chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are grown in natural conditions and without the use of any artificial inputs like fungicides or herbicides. Organic farming practices include crop rotation and cover crops, the composting of animal manure, the recycling of wastewater, as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

In 2002, USDA National Organic Programs (NOP) were established to regulate the production and handling of organic products that are sold in the United States. NOP regulations make sure that organic agricultural product conforms to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Organic products must also be free from banned substances, such as pesticides residues, growth hormones and irradiation.

For producers in the USA who want their products "organic", there are two kinds of certification programs: one for farmers or ranchers and one for manufacturers. Each program requires an annual audit of operations to ensure compliance with strict standards. There are several certifying organizations that offer these services. These include the CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers as well as Quality Assurance International and the American Grassfed Association. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

The USDA's Economic Research Service estimates that organic agriculture was responsible for $4.7 billion of 2013 sales. Retail spending on certified organic products reached nearly $1.5 Billion in 2013. This is a 23 per cent increase from 2009. Sales at grocery stores were up 12 percent during this period. Spending on direct purchases of organic produce increased by 29 percent, while spending on meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, and seafood grew by only 1 percent.

While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. Consumer Reports' 2015 survey found that 88% of respondents would spend more on organic food if it had higher nutritional values. Health Affairs also reported that organic food intake is associated with fewer health problems, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Although organic foods are not proven to prevent or treat certain diseases, some research suggests that they could improve overall health and reduce exposure to pesticides. In 2010, a review that included 31 studies concluded that organically-raised beef had lower levels of parasites and toxic chemicals than conventionally reared beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. After 2006, when USDA required stricter organic standards in animal raising for human consumption, the group noted that E.coli O157 was less common among children and adults.
