Frequently Asked Questions

What spices or herbs go best with potatoes?

A potato can be a side dish for any type of meat. If you've been cooking potatoes lately, you may already know there are more ways to serve them than simply mashed.

These versatile vegetables are delicious additions to any meal, from salads to casseroles to soups to pasta dishes. But did you know that numerous spices and herbs go well with potatoes?

These recipes will help you spice up your next potato dish.

Which Thai spice do I need to cook Thai food at home?

In order to cook authentic Thai food at home you will need five spices: black pepper (cayenne), coriander seeds (coriander seeds), turmeric and cinnamon. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in the creation delicious dishes.

Cinnamon adds sweetness, while black pepper brings out savoury flavours. Coriander seeds provide a spicy kick and turmeric gives curry powder the yellow color it is known for. Cayenne peppers bring the heat while cilantro adds freshness. Finally, cinnamon can add depth and complexity in any dish.

These spices are available at most grocery stores. However, if you prefer to order them online, we have recommendations.

What are the seven Indian spices?

Indian spices are a collection of spices used in Indian cuisine. They typically include cardamom, cumin, coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida (also known as hing). This spice blends natural ingredients to create flavour and aroma. Together, spices create unique flavour profiles that make Indian cooking so distinct.

Cardamom has an earthy, sweet flavor with notes of ginger and citrus. It is used to flavour curries, rice dishes such biryani, and other Asian cuisines. Cumin has a earthy aroma and a rich, bitter flavour. It's often used in curries, dals, and meat dishes. Coriander adds a delicate nuttiness and sweet citrus aroma to dishes. It is commonly used to season vegetables, lentils, and other foods.

Turmeric has an earthy taste with mustard, spices, hints of pepper. This spice is often used in curries, and other dishes. It also has a golden hue. Fenugreek is a spice with a rich aroma and earthy tones. It also has a bitter taste. It is commonly used to season meat dishes, such as kebabs and curry. Ginger is pungent and spicy with hints of citrus. It adds the perfect kick to dishes such as curries, chutneys, and soups. Asafoetida (hing), has a strong flavor and pungent smell that can be used in place of onion and garlic in certain recipes.

These spices combine to create unique flavours that make Indian cuisine so distinctive.

How to Store Spices

Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.

For longer storage, store spices in a dark cabinet. This will ensure that they stay fresh and prevent any possible oxidation.

Keep spices dry and away from sunlight in a cool, dry place. A heater or window can cause the spice to lose its aroma and flavour.

Spices are best stored in an airtight glass jar or tin. If you are storing your spices in plastic containers, ensure there is no moisture.

As humidity can cause mold growth, it is important to check the seal before opening or resealing.

You don't have to throw out leftover spices. Don't throw them away, instead use them in new recipes. To prolong their shelf life you can freeze them.

Is Paprika used in Thai food?

Yes. Yes.

Paprika is found in Thai food and Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Indian, Chinese, French, Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Lebanese, Greek, Turkish, and Balkan cuisines.

Paprika is a product that dates back over 5,000-years to Ancient Greece. The Hungarian language is what "paprika" means.

What kind of mint are used in Thai cuisine?

The most common type of mint used in Thai cuisine is lime-leaf mint (Mentha Cervina).

It has a mild, lemony flavour that adds freshness and zing to dishes. To enhance Thai cuisine's flavour, other spices like galangal, coriander, lemongrass and garlic are often added.

Mint is versatile and can be used both in sweet and savoury recipes. It is crucial to use authentic Thai flavors by using the right spices, herbs, aromatics.

next time you make a Thai dish, don't forget to include some lime-leaf mint for extra flavour!

Happy cooking!

How To

How to choose which spices to buy

It is important to know how you can choose the right spices and herbs to cook. There are hundreds of choices, so where can you start when choosing which spices to add to your kitchen?

Three factors are important to consider when choosing spices. They are the taste profile, shelf live, and price. Flavour profiles differ depending on whether you're cooking meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, beans, grains, pasta, eggs, dessert, bread, etc. You'll need to narrow your choices once you've chosen a category.

You will also find that shelf lives can vary. Some spices can last forever while others go bad quickly. Cayenne pepper, for example, can last years while oregano, on the other hand, loses its potency within two months. Then there's the price. Spices can range anywhere from $1 per tablespoon to more than $100 per ounce. This means you have to strike the right balance between quality and cost.

Also, consider whether organic or not organic ingredients. Organic products contain fewer chemicals and pesticides than conventional alternatives, making them better for your health and the environment. You'll have to balance the benefits and costs of organic products.

The best way to get the perfect spices for your home is to shop online. Online retailers offer detailed information about each product, including reviews, pricing, ratings, and ingredient lists.

Once you have narrowed your selection, you are able to place an order directly at the retailer. After you have received your items, keep them safe in an airtight container away from heat or light.
