Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most delicious Thai spices?

Galangal, coriander and turmeric are the best Thai spices. Some other good spices include cayenne pepper, clove, cardamom, black peppercorn, fennel seeds, star anise, and cloves.

Other valuable spices include bay leaves, curry, pandan, curry leaves. Kaffir lime leaves. Vanilla beans. Tamarind pods. Lemon grass. Basil.

Almond Flour vs. Almond Meal. What's The Difference?

As an almond flour alternative, an almond meal is more versatile because it can be used for baking, cooking, and even making nut-free dishes.

Almond flour can also contain gluten which makes it more difficult to digest. It is important to avoid gluten-free products if you have celiac or other digestive disorders.

Although almond flour isn’t considered to be a “superfood”, it is rich in healthy fats and fibre.

The almond meal offers many nutritional benefits including iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese (thiamin), calcium, vitamin A, B1 and Vitamin C.

Almond flour is made of almonds. Almond oil is made from polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, fatty oils. Both help to lower LDL (bad), and increase HDL levels.

Almond flour is also high in antioxidants, such as phenolics, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. These compounds protect against free radical-induced oxidative harm.

A study published by the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry revealed that almond flour had an antioxidant activity equal to that of blueberries.

Almond flour is commonly sold together with almondmilk, which has additional nutrients.

What is the difference in curry and curried?

There is no difference between the spellings. Both words mean the same thing: Indian cuisine that includes meat and vegetables mixed with different seasonings.

Curry comes from the Hindi word kari meaning "to rub." This term refers to how the spice mixture is rubbed onto the food. Curry foods are usually cooked until golden brown.

Curried dishes weren't always reserved for special occasions. Today, they can be enjoyed throughout India. They can be made with chicken, beef or lamb and include vegetables as well.

Plain white rice is usually served with curried dishes. Another common accompaniment is raita, a yogurt sauce, and chutney, a sweet relish.

Which ten spices are most in demand?

Spices are used in flavoring food and drinks. Some spices are more well-known than others. There are hundreds more varieties of spices. Let's examine the ten most famous spices and learn why they're so beloved.

The addition of spice to your cooking adds flavour and aroma. Many spices are rich in essential vitamins and minerals that help keep our bodies strong.

Here's a list of the ten most popular spices.

  1. Cinnamon - This spice is known to improve digestion and lower cholesterol levels. It can also help to prevent the flu.
  2. Garlic - This spice is known to boost immunity and fight infections. It can also help lower blood pressure by aiding digestion.
  3. Oregano-This spice can boost energy and increase athletic performance. It helps to fight infection and improve memory.
  4. Black Pepper – This spice is high in antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory capabilities. It also helps reduce stress and heart disease.
  5. Basil -Basil also contains vitamin K and calcium. It helps to fight cancer cells and improves metabolism.
  6. Salt and Vinegar - This combination makes for a delicious dish. Both salt and vinegar are very effective against bacteria and viruses.
  7. Cloves: Clove oil is an all-natural remedy for sore gums and toothaches. It is also great for muscle spasms, cramps, and other issues.
  8. Ginger – Ginger has been proved to relieve nausea and morning vomiting during pregnancy. It also helps clear congestion from your sinuses.
  9. Curry Powder – Curries have existed since antiquity. They were made initially with coconut milk. But, today we use different oils and ghee bases.
  10. Turmeric - One of the oldest medicinal herbs.

You can add flavour to your next meal by using these ten most popular spices in place of salt. You might be amazed by the results.

What are the spices, condiments and seasonings Thailand uses in its dishes?

Thai cuisine is a blend of influences from Asia. Its roots are found in India and China, as well as Southeast Asia.

Freshness is the most important ingredient in Thai food. There is much more flavour when ingredients are picked early and cooked quickly. This is why meats, fish, vegetables and fruits are often eaten raw and hot.

Spices and sauces add complexity and fragrance to dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These ingredients are common.

What Herbs or Spices go Best with Potatoes

A potato can be a side dish for any type of meat. You might have been cooking potatoes for a while and know that there are other ways to prepare them.

These versatile veggies can be used as a side dish in many dishes. But did you know that numerous spices and herbs go well with potatoes?

These delicious recipes can spice up your next potato recipe.

How To

How to Make a Garlic Press

A garlic press is one of the most valuable tools in any home cook's arsenal. It can be used to quickly mince garlic into a paste. It is great for crushing whole garlic cloves in a buttery spread, or garlic salt.

But if you don't own a garlic press yet, you might wonder where to start with one. We have some tips to help get you started.

First, get a large container. Place the bowl under the pressure regulator and pour the crushed garlic inside. Now, turn the pressure regulator to maximum.

Next, move the handle clockwise so that you hear a click. The top of the press should lift up and expose a flat surface. This will allow you slide the blade back-and-forth over the bowl. Continue to turn the handle counterclockwise, until the blades are closed.

Finally, remove the pressed garlic.

Here are other ways you can make use of this versatile tool.

  • Add minced garlic to soups, sauces, salads, and dips (or even as a seasoning)
  • You can crush whole garlic cloves using the press to make a buttery spread
  • Before baking, crush whole cloves of garlic on pizza dough
  • Blend roasted garlic into mashed potatoes or creamy polenta
  • Use the press for homemade pesto
  • Blend garlic to make a smooth vinaigrette
