Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices and requires farmers to follow strict guidelines to ensure that organic produce is safe to eat. There are more than 30 million acres of US farmland that have been certified organic.

Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. For the same amount, consumers pay less. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.

According to Environmental Working Group, organic food can be 10 percent cheaper per pound when compared to conventionally produced food. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.

Organic food has become an increasingly popular alternative to American standard diets. Although many may think that organic food is only available at specialty markets and gourmet restaurants, this isn't true. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.

In recent years organic food sales increased substantially. In the US, organic food sales reached $43Billion in 2012, an increase of $21Billion in 2007.


What is an organic food processor?

Organic food producers use organic methods to grow their products. These foods include fruits, vegetables and dairy products.

Organic food production happens on farms where crops have been naturally nurtured. This includes soil preparation, pest controls, and crop rotation.

USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), has strict requirements for agricultural products to be certified organic.

These guidelines help consumers access healthy, safe and nutritious foods.

The benefits of eating organic range from lower levels of pesticide residues and heavy metal contamination to higher nutrient content and better flavour.

USDA certified organic products must bear the USDA Certified Organic label.

This certification signifies that the product meets all standards set by the National Organic Program.

Organic food can help us eat better and protect our environment.

Organic farming techniques help preserve natural resources such as water and land. Organic farming techniques also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contributes to climate change.

Organic agriculture uses fewer chemical inputs and pollutes less.

There are many types and varieties of organic farming.

Conventional agriculture refers to the use synthetic inputs, such as pesticides/fertilizers.

What is organic?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. When we eat organic foods, we reduce the pollution in landfills, rivers, lakes, etc. Organic farmers are less likely to use toxic chemicals to kill birds or insects. This helps protect wildlife.

It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Local purchases help keep more money within the community than traveling out of state. What is the difference between organic food and inorganic?

Organic food is produced without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, or genetic modification. Organic farming practices contribute to soil health, water purity, and animal welfare.

Inorganic food is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Irradiated foods are treated with radiation; genetically modified organisms (GMO) are created through biological engineering techniques.

The term "natural" is often used interchangeably with "organic." Natural does not necessarily have to mean organic. Natural products can also be labeled with synthetic ingredients.

Organic produce is usually more nutritious that conventional produce. This is because organic soil contains fewer toxic chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers don't use any artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics.


Organic foods are better for us.

According to the Environmental Working Group’s latest report on pesticide residues, organic fruits/vegetables had nearly half as many pesticides than non-organic. They discovered that organic apples contained eight more pesticides per gram than non-organic ones, while organic strawberries contained four times as many pesticides.

Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.

Organic food tends to be healthier than nonorganic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.


Why should I choose organic?

Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. You must make healthy choices when buying food.

Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.

USDA organic labels can be found on meat, poultry (eggs, eggs), milk, cheese and yogurt as well.

Avoid processed foods that are labeled "natural" or "no added ingredients."

Always read the ingredient lists. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

What happens to your body if you switch to organic products
