Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference in curry and curried?

It doesn't matter how the spelling is written. Both words refer the same thing: Indian food that uses meats and vegetables along with different seasonings.

Curry is derived in Hindi from kari, which means to rub. This refers the way that the spice mix is applied onto the food. Curried foods should be cooked until they are golden brown.

While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They can be made with chicken, beef or lamb and include vegetables as well.

Plain white rice is usually served with curried dishes. Other common accompaniments include raita (a yogurt sauce) and chutney (a sweet relish).

What are the 7 Indian spices you use?

Indian spices is a collection Indian spices. They usually include cardamom (also known by hing), cumin, turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida. Spices add flavour to dishes by blending natural ingredients like meats, vegetables and spices. Spices create unique flavour profiles, which make Indian cuisine so distinctive.

Cardamom's sweet, pungent flavor is balanced with ginger and citrus notes. It is often used to flavour curries and rice dishes like biryani. Cumin has a strong, earthy aroma as well as a rich and nuanced flavor. It is often added in to curries, dals, or meat dishes. Coriander has a sweet citrus aroma and adds a subtle nuttiness to dishes. It is used often to season vegetables and lentils.

Turmeric has an earthy flavour with mustard, spices, and pepper hints. This spice is commonly used in curries and other dishes and has a golden hue. Fenugreek has an earthy aroma, a slight bitter flavor, and earthy tones. It is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes like kebabs. Ginger is pungent and spicy with hints o citrus. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida (hing) has a pungent smell and strong flavor that substitutes onion and garlic in some recipes.

These spices are a unique combination that creates Indian cuisine.

Thai food can Paprika be used?

Yes. Yes.

Thai, Mexican, Spanish, Indian and Chinese cuisines include paprika.

Paprika can also be traced back to Ancient Greece, more than 5,000 year ago. The Hungarian language is what "paprika" means.

What are the 11 Indian spice blends?

Indian cuisine has eleven spices: cumin seeds (coriander seeds), mustard seeds (fennel seeds), nigella seeds and black pepper.

These spices are found in nearly every dish. These spices give a distinctive taste to dishes such as dal (lentils), curries, chutneys, pickles, rice, bread, and sweets.

Also, spices have many health benefits. Turmeric, for example, is known to fight cancer cells. Bad breath is protected by cloves. Black pepper decreases cholesterol. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.

A spice rack is a fantastic kitchen tool that allows you experiment with different combinations. You can mix your own spices or purchase ready-made spice mixes that include many essential spices.

Some people are against adding spices to their food. These people believe spices are a masking agent and do not enhance natural flavors. However, adding a pinch of salt or pepper is no harm in enhancing the flavor of your meals.

Most chefs agree that spices form an integral part of good culinary art. Many dishes would be bland and tasteless without spices. So next time you're feeling adventurous, why not try a new recipe and see what happens?

What Thai spice will I need to make Thai food home?

To make authentic Thai food at home, you'll need to master five essential spices: black pepper, cayenne, coriander seeds, turmeric, and cinnamon. Each ingredient is unique and plays an integral role in the creation of delicious dishes.

Black pepper enhances the savoury flavors of curry powder, while cinnamon gives it sweetness. Coriander seeds provide a spicy kick and turmeric gives curry powder the yellow color it is known for. Cayenne peppers provide heat and cilantro provides freshness. Cinnamon adds complexity and depth to any dish.

You can buy each of these spices in your local grocery shop, or you can order them online.

What are the typical spices, condiments, and seasonings used in their dishes in Thailand?

Thai cuisine is a mix of Asian influences. Its roots are in India and China as well as Southeast Asia.

Freshness is the key ingredient in Thai cuisine. Ingredients that are quickly cooked and picked at the right time will have more flavour. This is why meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, seeds, and grains are often eaten raw and served hot.

Spices and sauces add complexity and fragrance to dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These ingredients are common.

What are the best Thai spices?

Galangal, galangal, coriander, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and clove are the best Thai herbs. Some other good spices include cayenne pepper, clove, cardamom, black peppercorn, fennel seeds, star anise, and cloves.

Rose petals and bay leaves, pandan leafs, curry leaves, pandan leave, kaffir lemon leaves, vanilla beans. Tamarind pods, lemongrass, basil, mint are other useful spices.

How To

Are You able to make curry paste?

Curry paste is made from dried chillies, shallots and galangal root. It also contains lemongrass, galangal root (lemongrass), lemongrass, kaffir Lim leaf, garlic, shrimp paste and sugar. It is an important ingredient in Thai cuisine.

Curry paste is a popular condiment in Southeast Asia. Curry paste can add a distinct flavour to many dishes like curries.

It's easy to make at-home! Just follow our step-by-step guide below:

Step1 - Prepare Ingredients

  • Before starting the recipe, you will need to prepare all ingredients.
  • First, peel and chop shallots (2 cups). Then, cut the galangal roots into small pieces (approximately 3 inches in length), and then set aside.
  • Next, you will need to peel and slice the garlic cloves (about 4 cloves). Peel and finely mince lemongrass stems (about 1/2 inch thick).
  • Then, crush dried red chilli peppers (about four tablespoons) and remove the seeds (optional).
  • Next, trim the kaffir lime leaves into strips about 5 inches in length. Remove the white part of the stem and set it aside.
  • Once the shrimp paste has been drained, rinse it and then coarsely crush it.
  • Finally, measure out sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Grind all ingredients together until smooth.
  • The texture should be similar to that of peanut butter.
  • You can replace some oil with water if you wish to reduce the oil content of your dish.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Add coconut milk to the mixture, and mix well.
  • You should slowly add the coconut milk so that it doesn't get too sticky.
  • If you like it milder, reduce the number of chillies used and add more galangal root.
  • If you prefer it spicy, add more chillies or less galangal roots. The end result should be delicious.

Step4 - Serve

  • Top with your favorite food.
  • Enjoy!
