What are the top organic products?
The fastest-growing industry is organic food. But even though we've come a long way from our roots, there is still much room for growth.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.
But they tend to be more expensive. The Organic Food Index was created to address this. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.
The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011 and 2012 the number of Americans buying organic food increased nearly 50%.
According to USDA, organic food production increased by 10% only last year. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.
While organic food is certainly gaining ground, it seems that it is still an expensive choice for consumers. The Organic Trade Association (OTA) reports that organic food retail prices average almost double the price of conventional foods.
The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. You can see that organic food has been steadily increasing since 2009.
According to OTA's data, organic products sold in supermarkets grew at 14% between 2010 - 2011.
This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.
However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials are twice more likely to purchase organic food than baby boomers. Young adults below 35 years of age account for 25%.
What are the health benefits of organic farming
Organic farming gives farmers the opportunity to grow food without the use of chemical pesticides. Farmers do not need to worry about harmful pesticides harming their crops or animals.
Organic farming also permits for the use of natural fertilizers. These fertilizers help to grow healthy plants and help to reduce the amount of chemical waste produced.
Organic farming is also environmentally friendly. For example, organic farming uses composting techniques to re-use nutrients in the soil. This reduces the risk of pollution and helps conserve precious resources.

5 Reasons to Buy Organic Products
Organic foods are free from pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. They contain no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or irradiated ingredients. Their production processes do not include sewage or industrial solvents. The food's natural environment is protected from contamination during its growth cycle. It does not contain artificial preservatives or additives. There is no use of antibiotics or hormones. In addition, they are produced under conditions that allow them to retain their nutritional value and freshness for longer periods.
- Health benefits. Nonorganic produce is more chemically-laden than organic. This makes it less likely to cause allergies or sensitivities. It also means you're consuming fewer toxins and carcinogens.
