Organic foods are better for us.
According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. Organic strawberries contained four times more pesticides that their conventional counterparts, and organic apples contained eight percent less.
Research has also suggested that organic food may reduce mercury and lead exposure. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.
Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend that you choose fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible to lower your chance of developing cancer or other diseases.
What is the difference in organic and non-organic foods?
Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices support soil health, water quality, and animal welfare.
Inorganic food is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Radiated foods are those that have been exposed to radiation. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are created using biological engineering techniques.
The term "natural", often used interchangeably to mean "organic," is frequently used. But natural does not necessarily imply organic. You may also find products that are labeled as "natural", which could contain synthetic ingredients.
Organic produce is often more nutritious than conventional produce, as the soil has fewer pesticides and harmful chemicals. Organic farmers do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones, anti-biotics, and other harmful chemicals.

What Organic Foods Are You Looking For?
Organic foods come from plants and animals without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or additives. They can be produced without the use of genetic engineering or ionizing radiation. The food must contain no artificial ingredients, colourings, flavour enhancers, or preservatives. It must not contain genetically altered organisms (GMOs).
The term "organic" was first used in 1845 when chemist Justus von Liebig coined the word "organisch" meaning life-giving, to describe the properties of manure. Most people associate organic with food production. Organic means the product has only natural substances like proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that are found in nature.
Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. According to statistics, approximately 50% of the world’s population consumes at minimum one organic product each day. This number increases constantly and is expected to reach 70%, 80%, and 90% by 2020.
Organic products are preferred for many reasons. Some prefer the flavor, while others prefer them because they are healthier. Others also believe organic farming makes it more sustainable. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.
Organic food tends to be more expensive that conventional foods, but prices can vary depending upon the country or region. The price of organic food is affected by several factors. One is the availability and cost of land that can be used for organic agriculture. Another is the cost of inputs and labour needed for organic cultivation. There are other factors such as transportation costs, marketing and taxes. In Europe, for instance, the average price for organic food in Europe is 10% higher than its regular price.
