Frequently Asked Questions
Is organic food healthy?
There are two types. One is those that we grow ourselves, and the other is those that we buy from someone else. There are exceptions, but the majority of the time, both options will be available. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.
There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.
Organic food is healthier and tastes better because it contains more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients. Organics are grown without using pesticides and fertilizers. They also don't pollute soil or water.
Organic farming is regulated by the USDA. Farmers must follow strict guidelines to ensure safe eating. There are over 30 million acres of US organic farmland.
Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. Customers pay less for the same amount in calories, protein and nutrients. Organic farms are able to charge lower prices for their crops because they don't have to purchase expensive chemical inputs like insecticides and fungicides.
According to Environmental Working Group, organic food can be 10 percent cheaper per pound when compared to conventionally produced food. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.
Organic food has become a popular alternative to standard American diets. Many people believe that organic food can only be found in specialty markets or gourmet restaurants. This is false. You can easily purchase organic food in regular grocery stores throughout the United States.
Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. The market value of organic food in the US was $43 billion in 2012, up from $21 billion in 2007.
What are the benefits to organic farming?
Organic farming offers farmers a method of growing food that doesn't require the use of chemicals. Farmers don't have worry about whether harmful pesticides are affecting their crops or animals.
Organic farming allows for natural fertilizers to be used. These fertilizers promote healthy plants and decrease the amount of chemicals used.
Organic farming is also beneficial for the environment. Organic farming is also environmentally friendly. Farmers often use composting to recycle nutrients back into their soil. This helps to reduce pollution and conserve valuable resources.
Organic farming can increase crop yields and help the environment. This is because organic agriculture uses less water in the growing season.
Organic farming methods can also result in higher prices for farmers' produce. People who are more conscious of the dangers of chemical fertilizers and pesticides will eat healthier food.
This increases demand for organic food products. Organic farming is becoming more popular because of this.
Why is organic produce important?
Organic produce is vital for our health. It's the best way to ensure we eat nutritious foods. Not only is it better for us, but it's also more environmentally friendly because it doesn't rely on pesticides and fertilizers.
Organic farming uses natural methods of cultivating crops that are free from harmful chemicals. This means fewer environmental pollutants, making it safer for humans and animals. So when you choose organic food, you're helping to protect yourself and the planet.
The benefits of organic food go beyond our health, though. We all know how bad processed food can make us feel. Organic fruits and vegetables aren’t subject to chemicals spray. This means they are more fresh tasting, last longer and look better.
This is why organic food is so important. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.
What should I look out for when buying organic products?
Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.
When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants which means that they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.
Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.
It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment, the udder, is where milk comes from.
Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.
What is organic meat exactly?
Organic meat refers to real food grown without the use artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or hormones. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.
Organic meats are good for the environment. Organic foods reduce pollution in rivers, lakes and landfills. We can also help wildlife by eating organic foods. Organic farmers do not often use toxic chemicals that can kill birds or insects.
Buy organic meats whenever possible. This is the best way for you to eat healthy, organic meats. Local buying helps to keep money in the community, rather than moving out of state. Local businesses often offer discounts to their customers by shopping locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

How To
What happens when you switch from conventional products to organic?
Organic products are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic manipulation. They come from clean water sources, and are raised on free-range animals. Organic means that they are free from chemicals and additives. This product was created by nature, and therefore does not contain harmful substances.
The term "natural" refers to how food is grown. It is usually used to describe foods that haven't been processed into their final form (e.g., fruits). Natural foods are more fresh than other foods because they have not been subject to heat, radiation or chemical preservatives. Some people don't believe that natural means healthy. Many experts say there isn't much difference between conventional and organic foods. Both types of food have been tested for safety and quality. Organic produce is less likely to contain pesticide residues and pollutants than conventionally grown produce.
Most grocery stores now sell organic products. For organic meats, poultry, eggs and seafood, you should check with your local supermarket. Some companies offer only organic products while others have separate sections. USDA Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified are some of the options.
If you are pregnant, or nursing, these products should not be eaten. Pesticides are known to affect unborn babies and infants.
