Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?

There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. So there is no difference in quality.

But the price gap is significant. Because of the labor involved in making whole spices, they cost more. However, the flavor is worth it.

You'll often find extra discounts for bulk purchases when you buy whole spices. If you buy a whole bag of cinnamon sticks, you may get a discount.

The same goes for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, etc. This can help you save money on spices if you buy them in bulk.

Ground spices last much longer than whole spices. This is because ground spices lose their potency quickly due to oxidation.

Whole spices are a great way to add personality and flavor to your recipe.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. You can also grind whole coriander leaves to make a spice mix for chicken dishes.

Grinding spices takes time. It is sensible to purchase large quantities when buying whole spices. You won't run low on spices if you buy large quantities.

What are the best Thai spices?

Galangal (lemongrass), coriander, turmeric and cinnamon are the best Thai spice. You can also use clove, cardamom black peppercorn, clove, cardamom clove, cardamom, fennel seed, star anise, cloves and cayenne pepper as spices.

Some other valuable spices include rose petals, bay leaves, curry leaves, pandan leaves, kaffir lime leaves, vanilla beans, tamarind pods, lemon grass, basil, and mint.

Almond Meal vs. Almond Flour: What's the Difference?

An almond meal, which can be used as an almond flour substitute, is more versatile than other almond flours because it can be used for baking and cooking, as well as making nut free dishes.

Almond flour might also contain gluten, which can make it hard to digest. Avoid gluten-free food if you have celiac disease, or any other digestive disorder.

Almond flour isn't considered "superfood", but it is high in healthy fats, fibres, protein, vitamin E, and sodium.

Almond meal has many nutritional benefits, including magnesium, copper and zinc as well as manganese and potassium.

Almond flour is made with almonds. Almond oils contain polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. Both can lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol.

Almond flour is also high in antioxidants, such as phenolics, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. These compounds protect against oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

In a study published in Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, almond flour was found to have an antioxidant activity comparable to blueberries, cranberries or pomegranates and red wine grapes juice.

Almond flour is typically sold along with almond milk, which is fortified to add additional nutrients.

Does Thai food have cumin in it?

One of the most popular spices used in Thai cuisine is cumin. In Thai cuisine, cumin is often mixed with garlic, ginger or coriander to create different flavours.

Stir-fries, soups, curries, and salads are all popular uses of cumin in Thai cuisine. Additionally, cumin is sometimes added to marinades, dressings and sauces. Other spices, however, are important in Thai cuisine.

The mix can be enhanced with fish sauce, garlic, ginger, chilli peppers and ginger. By combining these spices in different proportions, chefs can create signature dishes that capture the essence of Thai cuisine.

Overall, cumin is essential in Thai cooking and is often found in many traditional dishes. Cumin's unique flavours add a rich and distinct flavor to Thai food. Cumin can be used to add unique spices to many Thai dishes.

The unique flavors of Thai cuisine can be captured by chefs adding spices like cumin to their meals. The answer is yes, cumin is an essential component of many Thai traditional dishes.

Can garlic be used in Thai cooking

Garlic is an ingredient used in Thai cuisine. Garlic is commonly added to salads.

In Thailand, garlic is chopped and fried with shallots, ginger, and spices. Also, you can eat it with sticky white rice.

Garlic is best chopped finely and mixed with oil, chilli paste, fish sauce, lime juice and oil. This is "Nam Phrik" or "namphrik". Nam Phrik is often served alongside grilled chicken, beef, or pork.

Statistics

  • It has been estimated that around 1,000 tons of pepper and 1,000 tons of other common spices were imported into Western Europe each year during the Late Middle Ages. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • According to the McCormick Science Institute, indigenous Indian spices were cultivated as early as the 8th century BC in the gardens of Babylon. (spicecravings.com)
  • Their 14 to 20 percent essential oil content means that cloves have the highest concentration of aroma compounds of any spice. (masterclass.com)

How To

How To Make A Garlic Press?

A garlic presse is an indispensable tool for home chefs. It makes it easy to mince garlic into a paste, puree it into soups or salad dressings, or even make a sauce. It is also useful for crushing whole cloves of garlic into buttery spreads and garlic salt.

If you don't yet have a garlic presse, you may be wondering where to get one. Here are some tips that will help you get started.

First things first: you'll need a large bowl. Place the bowl beneath the press, and then pour the crushed garlic in it. Now, set the pressure regulator valve to the maximum.

Next, turn your handle clockwise to hear a click. The top part of the press should lift off and reveal a flat surface that will allow you to slide the blade back and forth over the bowl. Continue turning the handle counterclockwise to close the blades.

Finally, take out the pressed garlic.

These are just a few of the many ways you can use this versatile tool.

  • Make minced garlic soups, sauces for salads, dips and seasonings.
  • To crush whole garlic cloves, use the press to create a buttery spread
  • Make pizza dough by crushing whole cloves.
  • Combine roasted garlic with mashed potatoes and creamy polenta
  • Use the press for homemade pesto
  • Blend the garlic into a smooth vinegar dressing
