How to Store Spices

Store your spices in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. If the spice is placed near a heater or window, it may lose its flavour and aroma.

Spices should be stored in an airtight tin or glass jar. You should ensure that the containers are not moistened if you store them in plastic containers.

After opening the seal, make sure to inspect it again. Humidity can cause spoilage.

Don't throw out any spice leftovers. You can make use of them by adding them to your favorite dishes. To extend their shelf life, you can freeze them.

How to store cooking spices?

How to store cooking spices in a way that maximizes their performance. First of all, we need to establish an understanding of the science behind the storage of foodstuffs.

Keep spices out of direct sunlight as light will reduce their flavor. This is due oxygen reacting with organic compounds such that spices, causing oxidation.

To avoid oxidation, spice should be kept in dark cupboards. Spices will lose their flavour quickly if the conditions aren’t met.

Keep spices in airtight containers away from direct sun to preserve their flavour.

For a flavoured beverage, add herbs and spices. Mix 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm liquid and stir. Serve immediately by adding a squeeze lemon juice.

Dried herbs can be added to soups stews, casseroles pasta dishes rice dishes salads and desserts. Simply sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the dish and sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.

If you have leftover cooked vegetables, fruit, meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, cheese, bread, crackers, cookies, cakes, pies, or puddings, they can be added to your favourite recipes as snacks.
