Frequently Asked Questions
Organic foods are better for us.
According to the Environmental Working Group's latest report on pesticide residues in foods, organic fruits and vegetables had nearly half the level of pesticides compared with non-organic versions. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.
Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant mothers should avoid eating conventional fish because of the high levels mercury.
Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.
How do you determine if food has been grown organically?
If you ask any chef, he'll tell you there's nothing more important than fresh ingredients. Because we feel better when we eat well.
The same goes for our food. Organics can be traced back to their source and whereabouts. We also know it was not treated using harmful chemicals.
Organic food is produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Organic farmers aren't allowed to use these substances.
There is no art in growing organic crops. You have many options to safely grow them.
Sustainable agriculture is also known as organic farming. Organic farming is more sustainable than traditional methods and provides all the nutrients necessary to sustain life.
Organic farming methods include crop rotations, composting manure and cover cropping. These techniques reduce soil erosion and increase water quality.
They also reduce chemical contamination of waterways. Local farms can be found in cities that raise organic produce.
There are two types certified programs for organic products. One is certified under the USDA National Organic Program. The other is certified independently by certifying authorities. Both require strict organic standards to be adhered to.
Certified organic products may bear the USDA seal or the symbol O Seal, which indicates that the product meets federal requirements.
What should I look out for when buying organic products?
USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.
When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'
Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. A digestive tract that is omnivorous includes a crop, proventriculus and gizzard. It also contains small intestines, large intestines, and anus.
Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.
Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.
What is organic meat exactly?
Organic meat is food that has not been treated with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. This means that the meat is safe for consumption as there aren’t any harmful chemicals.
Organic meats are healthier for our environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. We can also help wildlife by eating organic foods. Organic farmers do not often use toxic chemicals that can kill birds or insects.
You can eat organic meats and produce whenever you can. Local buying helps to keep money in the community, rather than moving out of state. Local businesses often offer discounts to their customers by shopping locally. Buy local to save jobs and not send them overseas.
Why should you buy organic?
Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. You must make healthy choices when buying food.
The Environmental Working Group has the following tips for choosing "cleaner" food.
Buy organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.
Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."
Make sure you read through all the ingredients. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.
Choose fresh meats over frozen or canned ones. Frozen and canned foods often contain less nutrient-rich ingredients like high fructose corn syrup.
What are organic fruits?
Organic foods do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They contain more nutrients such vitamins A, C. E, and, in some cases, omega-3 oils. These healthy ingredients make organic food better for our bodies and the planet.
Organic foods are grown with sustainable agricultural practices that help to preserve soil quality, and increase biological diversity. They are produced without harmful chemicals, irradiation, or sewage sludge.
Although organics are most commonly associated with produce, organics can also be found in dairy, meats, poultry, eggs and baked goods.
According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. To grow these foods, farmers cannot use non-organic (or conventional) methods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.
The farmer must also follow the guidelines for how much fertilizer and insecticide he uses throughout the growing season. He must also rotate his fields among different crops. GMOs, artificial growthhormones, synthetic insecticides, and synthetic fertilizers cannot be used by farmers.
All the above requirements are met by vegetables and fruits that are labeled "100% Organic". But some farms do not label their products as 100% organic because it would confuse consumers. Instead, they will label the product as "made from organic ingredients". "
Is organic food healthier?
There are two types: foods that we grow and those that we purchase from others. Although there are exceptions to each category, most of the answers to your question are yes. Organic food is healthier than conventional food because it doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. It also doesn’t contain preservatives or genetically modified organisms.
You can find organic food in supermarkets across North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Organic food can now be found in many grocery stores making it easier for shoppers to choose organic products.
Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.
The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are over 30,000,000 acres of US agricultural land that has been certified organic.
As an added benefit, organic food is often much cheaper than conventional food. Customers pay less for the same amount in calories, protein and nutrients. Organic farms are able to charge lower prices for their crops because they don't have to purchase expensive chemical inputs like insecticides and fungicides.
According to the Environmental Working Group organic food is 10 percent cheaper per pound than conventionally manufactured food. Organic food is an option if you want to improve your health and the health of your family.
Organic food is becoming a popular option to the standard American diet. Many people believe that organic food can only be found in specialty markets or gourmet restaurants. This is false. Organic food can be purchased in most grocery stores across the United States.
Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. Organic food market value in the US increased from $21 billion to $43 billion in 2007 to reach $43 billion in 2012.

How To
How to buy organic meat even on a tight budget
In this post I'll share some tips and techniques for buying organic meat that won't break the bank.
Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.
It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes, you have to use your creativity to save money while still eating well. Here are some ways you can cut down on food expenses while still getting the best from organic meat.
- Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. You can often find deals on large quantities (up to 50 pounds) if you live close to one of these stores. This ensures that meat is not wasted. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
- Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Local farmers will usually be cheaper than big-box retailers since they don't pay large fees to stock their shelves. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. It's possible to reduce grocery expenses by cooking new recipes using ingredients you've never tried before. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- Be creative with leftovers - If you have leftover cooked meat or poultry, use them for sandwiches, salads, soups, casseroles, etc. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.
So, there you are! So there you have it! My list of tips for getting organic meat without breaking the bank. Are there any other tips you can share? What other tips do you have for me?
