Frequently Asked Questions
What are 7 Indian spices?
Indian spices refers to a variety of spices that are used in Indian cooking. They typically include cardamom, cumin, coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida (also known as hing). This spice blends natural ingredients to create flavour and aroma. Spices create unique flavour profiles, which make Indian cuisine so distinctive.
Cardamom has a sweet and pungent taste with hints of citrus and ginger. It is used to flavour curries, rice dishes such biryani, and other Asian cuisines. Cumin has an earthy, rich aroma and a nutty flavor. It's often used in curries, dals, and meat dishes. Coriander adds a delicate nuttiness and sweet citrus aroma to dishes. It is often used in seasoning vegetables and lentils.
Turmeric has an earthy flavour with mustard, spices, and pepper hints. This spice is popularly used in curries as well as other dishes. Fenugreek possesses a rich, earthy scent, slightly bitter flavour, and earthy tone tones. It is commonly used to season meat dishes, such as kebabs and curry. Ginger is spicy, pungent, and has hints of citrus. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida is a spice that has strong flavors and a pungent smell.
These spices are a unique combination that creates Indian cuisine.
How to store your spices?
Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.
To store spices for longer periods of time, place them in a dark cupboard. This will help preserve the spices and prevent oxidation.
Keep spices dry and away from sunlight in a cool, dry place. A heater or window can cause the spice to lose its aroma and flavour.
Spices can be best kept in an airtight container or tin. You should ensure that the containers are not moistened if you store them in plastic containers.
Check the seal every time you open and reseal it. Heat can cause moisture to spoil your product.
Don't throw out any spice leftovers. Use them instead by adding them into other dishes. You can even freeze them to extend their shelf life.
What are the best Thai spices?
Galangal, coriander and turmeric are the best Thai spices. Other good spices include clove, cardamom and black peppercorn as well as cloves, star anise and cloves.
Rose petals, bay leaves and pandan leaves are all valuable spices.
What are the 11 spice ingredients in Indian cooking?
Coriander seeds and cumin seeds are the eleven main spices in Indian cuisine.
These ingredients are used in almost every dish. These spices impart a distinct flavor to dishes such as curries (lentils), curries and chutneys. They also add a unique taste to rice, bread, and sweets.
For health reasons, spices are also beneficial. One example is turmeric, which helps fight cancer cells. Cloves help protect against bad breath. Black pepper lowers cholesterol. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.
A spice rack is a great kitchen tool because it allows you to experiment with different combinations of flavors. You can make your own blends of spices or buy ready-made mixes containing many essential spices.
Some people do not like to add spices to their food. They believe that spices only mask natural flavors and do nothing to improve them. There is nothing wrong with adding salt or pepper to enhance the flavor of your meals.
Most chefs agree that spices are a vital part of culinary art. Many dishes would be bland and tasteless without spices. If you are feeling adventurous, try out a new dish and see what happens.
What mint is used in Thai food?
The most common type of mint used in Thai cuisine is lime-leaf mint (Mentha Cervina).
It adds freshness to dishes with its mild, lemony flavor. Thai dishes often include other spices such as galangal (lemongrass), garlic, and coriander.
Mint is versatile and can be used both in sweet and savoury recipes. To achieve authentic Thai flavours, it is important to use the right spices, herbs and aromatics.
Next time you make Thai food, add some lime-leafmint for more flavor!
Enjoy your cooking!

How to Make a Garlic Pressure?
A garlic press is a valuable tool in every home cook's kitchen. It can be used to quickly mince garlic into a paste. You can also crush whole garlic cloves to make buttery spreads or garlic seasonings.
However, if you don’t already have a garlic pressing machine, you might wonder how to get one. We have some tips to help get you started.
First, you will need a large bowl. Then, place the bowl under the press and add the crushed garlic. Set the pressure regulator valve at the maximum setting.
Next, turn the handle counterclockwise until you hear a click. The top end of the press should lift and reveal a flat area that allows you to slide your blade back and forth across the bowl. Continue turning the handle in a clockwise direction until the blades come to a close.
Finally, take out the pressed ginger and enjoy!
Here are some other ways to use this versatile tool:
- Make minced garlic soups, sauces for salads, dips and seasonings.
- To crush whole garlic cloves, use the press to create a buttery spread
- Place whole garlic cloves in a pizza dough and crush them before baking
- Mix roasted garlic in mashed potatoes or creamy pasta.
- Use the press for homemade pesto
- Puree garlic and make a smooth dressing
