Frequently Asked Questions

What are the top organic products?

Organic food is the fastest-growing industry today. There is still much to be done, even though we have come so far from our roots.

Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.

But they tend to be more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.

The results showed that organic food is increasing in popularity. Between 2011 and 2012 the number of Americans buying organic food increased nearly 50%.

According to USDA, organic food production increased by 10% only last year. Currently, organic food accounts for 9% in the U.S. agricultural production.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. If you look closely at the data, it will be apparent that organic food consumption has steadily increased since 2009.

According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

Younger generations are choosing organic food more often than older generations. Millennials are twice likely to choose organic food than the baby boomers. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

What is organic meat?

Organic meat is organic food that has been grown naturally without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or hormones. It also means the animals were not fed any genetically modified foods. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are good for the environment. Eating organic foods helps reduce pollution in the environment, such as rivers and lakes. Organic farmers are less likely to use toxic chemicals to kill birds or insects. This helps protect wildlife.

It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Local purchasing helps keep money local, not out of the state. Local businesses often offer discounts to their customers by shopping locally. Shopping locally keeps American jobs in America, rather than sending them abroad.

How can you tell if food is organic?

Ask any chef and he will tell you that fresh ingredients are the most important thing. This is because eating well makes us feel better.

The same is true of our food. We can identify exactly where and how organic foods were grown when we purchase them. We also know that it didn't have any harmful chemicals.

Organic food is produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. These substances are not permitted to organic farmers.

Organic farming doesn't have to be difficult. You have many options to safely grow them.

Organic farming is often called sustainable agriculture. Organic farming is more sustainable than traditional methods and provides all the nutrients necessary to sustain life.

Organic farming practices include crop rotation, composting manure, cover cropping, and intercropping. These techniques help prevent soil erosion and improve water quality.

They reduce chemical runoff from waterways. Many of us live in urban areas so we have access to local farms that produce organic produce.

Two types of certification programs are available for organic products. One is certified by the USDA National Organic Program, and the other is certified by independent certifying agencies. Both require strict adherence to organic standards.

Certified organic products may bear the USDA seal or the symbol O Seal, which indicates that the product meets federal requirements.

Statistics

  • Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids were up to 50 percent higher in organic meats and milk than in conventionally raised products.[3] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)
  • Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)

How To

How to afford Organic Meat even when on a Budget

Here are some tips and tricks that will help you save money on organic meat.

Here are some tips to help you find low-cost organic meats. Also, how much per pound they cost. You will be able to make the most of what you have purchased.

Healthy eating doesn't require you to spend a lot. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.

  1. Buy at wholesale clubs - Costco and Sams Club are great places to shop for bulk foods like chicken breasts and pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. You won't have to waste meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
  2. Online shopping is a great way to find meat at a discounted price. Amazon, for example, offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal that includes free shipping on orders greater than $35 They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
  3. Locate a farmer in your area. Local farmers are usually cheaper than big box retailers as they don’t pay high stocking fees. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
  4. Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. You should always look for the best cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts are low in fat and high-protein.
  5. Try new recipes - Don't be afraid to try new things! One of the easiest ways to reduce your grocery bill is to start cooking meals with ingredients you haven't used before. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
  6. Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.

So, there you are! This is my list of tips to help you afford organic meat, even if your budget is tight. Are you able to offer any additional tips? Any other suggestions?
