Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 7 Indian spices you use?
Indian spices are a collection of spices used in Indian cuisine. They typically include cardamom, cumin, coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida (also known as hing). These spices add flavour and aroma to dishes by blending and complementing natural ingredients such as meats and vegetables. The unique flavour profiles created by spices are what make Indian cooking special.
Cardamom is sweet and pungent with hints ginger and citrus. It is used often to flavor curries and rice dishes such as biryani. Cumin has an earthy, rich aroma and a nutty flavor. It's often used in curries, dals, and meat dishes. Coriander has a sweet citrus aroma and adds a subtle nuttiness to dishes. It is commonly used to season vegetables, lentils, and other foods.
Turmeric has an earthy, spicy flavour that includes mustard, spices and pepper hints. This spice is often used in curries, and other dishes. It also has a golden hue. Fenugreek is a spice with a rich aroma and earthy tones. It also has a bitter taste. It is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes like kebabs. Ginger is spicy and pungent, with hints citrus. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida (hing), has a strong flavor and pungent smell that can be used in place of onion and garlic in certain recipes.
These spices combine to create unique flavours that make Indian cuisine so distinctive.
What Spices or Herbs Are Best for Potatoes
Potatoes are a wonderful side dish to almost any meat. You may have noticed that potatoes can be served in many different ways than mashed.
These versatile vegetables can be used in a variety of dishes including soups, casseroles, and pasta dishes. But did you know that numerous spices and herbs go well with potatoes?
These recipes will help you spice up your next potato dish.
Does Thai use ginger?
Yes. Traditional Thai cooking makes extensive use of ginger. It is commonly added to stir-fries or soups. Ginger is also used in desserts such as lassis.
Ginger is a native of China, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. Its origins go back over 5,000 years. It is believed that ginger originated in Southeast Asia where it was grown for medicinal purposes.
Ginger has been shown to reduce nausea and stimulate digestion. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger is also known to reduce muscle spasms and joint pains as well as treating arthritis.
Ginger is often eaten fresh in Thailand. It is sliced into thin strips and then dried before being stored for later use. Asian markets sell ginger root in cans and cans.
What are the 11 spices of Indian cooking?
Coriander seeds and cumin seeds are the eleven main spices in Indian cuisine.
These ingredients can also be used in almost any dish. These spices are used in almost every dish, including curries, curries, chutneys (pickles), rice, bread and sweets.
Also, spices have many health benefits. One example is turmeric, which helps fight cancer cells. Cloves help protect against bad breath. Black pepper lowers cholesterol. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.
A spice rack makes a great kitchen tool. It allows you to experiment with many different combinations of flavours. You can make your own blends of spices or buy ready-made mixes containing many essential spices.
Some people do not like to add spices to their food. They believe that spices only mask natural flavors and do nothing to improve them. However, adding a pinch of salt or pepper is no harm in enhancing the flavor of your meals.
Many chefs agree that spices play a crucial role in culinary art. Without them, many dishes would be bland and tasteless. Try a new recipe next time you feel adventurous.
How to Store Spices
Keep them in an airtight container away from light and heat.
For longer storage, store spices in a dark cabinet. This will preserve them and prevent any oxidation.
Keep spices away from direct sunlight in a dry, cool place. You can lose the aroma and flavor of your spice if it is near a heater or window.
Spices are best stored in an airtight glass jar or tin. Make sure that there is no moisture in any plastic containers you store spices in.
As humidity can cause mold growth, it is important to check the seal before opening or resealing.
Do not throw away any spices that you have left over. Use them instead by adding them into other dishes. To extend their shelf life, you can freeze them.

How To
Do You Know How to Make Curry Paste?
Curry paste contains dried chillies and shallots, galangal roots, lemongrass (kaffir lime leaf), garlic, shrimp paste, sugar and salt. It is an important ingredient in Thai cuisine.
Curry paste is one of the most popular condiments in Southeast Asia. Curry paste adds a distinctive flavour to many dishes such as curries and soups, stir fries, stir-fries or rice dishes.
It's easy to make at-home! Follow our step by step guide below.
Step1 - Prepare Ingredients
- Before starting the recipe, you will need to prepare all ingredients.
- Peel and chop shallots (about two cups). Then, cut the galangal roots into small pieces (approximately 3 inches in length), and then set aside.
- Next, cut four garlic cloves into pieces. Next, peel and mince the lemongrass stems (about 1/2-inch thick).
- Next, crush the dried red chilli peppers (4 tablespoons) and then remove the seeds (optional).
- Next, cut the kaffir-lime leaves into thin strips (5 inches). Next, remove the white part from the stem and leave it alone.
- Then drain the shrimp paste (6 ounces) and then coarsely mash it.
- Finally, measure out sugar and salt.
Step2 - Grind Ingredients
- Grind all ingredients together until smooth.
- The texture should be similar to that of peanut butter.
- Not to worry if the dish contains too much oil, you can use water to replace it.
Step3 - Add Coconut Milk
- Mix coconut milk with the mixture.
- Slowly add coconut water to prevent the paste from getting too sticky.
- If you prefer less spice, add less chillies to the recipe and more galangalroot.
- For a more spicy taste, increase the amount of chillies and reduce the use of galangal root. The final product should be tasty to you.
Step4 - Serve
- Top with your favorite food.
- Enjoy!
