When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.

Buy only dairy products from cows that have been fed organically grown feed. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. Milk comes from the fourth stomach compartment--the udder.

You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.


Are organic foods healthier?

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.

Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.


How can I determine if my produce was organic?

These three labels can help you make sure you're buying organic produce.

USDA Organic Certified- This product has been certified organic by the USDA.

Certified Naturally Grown - Produce that has passed strict requirements for organic practices but has not yet received certification from the USDA.

Pastured/Freerange - Products made from animals who graze freely and are outdoors.

These labels are used to indicate that the product meets specified criteria.

In this post I'll share some tips and techniques for buying organic meat that won't break the bank.

You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.

To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes creativity is required to make money while still eating healthy. Here are my suggestions for ways to cut food costs while still enjoying the benefits of organic meat.

  1. Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). This way, you won't waste any meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry weekly deals, including free shipping for orders above $35 There are also discounts on lamb steaks (lamb steaks), ground beef, pork loins, and beef roasts. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
  3. Local farmers often charge less than big box retailers due to the fact that they don't have large overheads for stocking their shelves. Because they know exactly the diets and drinks of their animals, local farmers can provide a better understanding of what's inside.
