Frequently Asked Questions
How to Store Spices
Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.
To store spices for longer periods of time, place them in a dark cupboard. This will ensure that they stay fresh and prevent any possible oxidation.
Keep your spices out of direct sunlight and in a cool dry place. It is possible for the spice to lose its flavor and aroma if it's placed in close proximity to a window or heater.
Spices work best in an airtight jar or tin. You should ensure that the containers are not moistened if you store them in plastic containers.
Check the seal every time you open and reseal it. Heat can cause moisture to spoil your product.
Do not throw away any spices that you have left over. You can make use of them by adding them to your favorite dishes. They can be frozen to prolong their shelf-life.
What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?
There is no difference in cooking with whole spices and cooked with ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. The quality is the same.
But the price gap is significant. Whole spices are more expensive due to the labour required for processing them. However, the flavor is worth it.
When you buy bulk spices, you may get additional discounts. A whole bag of cinnamon sticks might be eligible for a discount.
This is true for cloves, ginger and cardamom. These spices can be purchased in bulk to save money.
Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.
However, the main reason we recommend whole spices is because they add character to recipes.
A delicious curry can be made with whole turmeric as opposed to ground turmeric. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.
It takes time to grind spices. If you're buying whole spices it makes sense for you to buy large quantities. So you don't run short of spices.
What Thai spice should I use to cook Thai food in my own kitchen?
Five essential spices are required to create authentic Thai cuisine at home. These include black pepper, turmeric, coriander seed, coriander and cinnamon. Each of these ingredients has its distinct flavour profile and plays a vital role in creating delicious dishes.
Cinnamon brings out the sweetness of black pepper, while white pepper enhances the savoury flavours. Coriander seeds add a spicy kick, while turmeric gives curry powder its signature yellow colour. Cayenne peppers heat up the dish, while cilantro adds flavor and freshness. The final touch is cinnamon which gives depth and complexity to any dish.
Each of these spices is available in your local grocery. If you'd rather buy them online, the following are our recommendations.
Thai food contains paprika.
Yes. It is an ingredient in many dishes, including Pad See Ew (Thai fried rice), from eggs cooked in coconut milk.
Thai, Mexican, Spanish, Indian and Chinese cuisines include paprika.
Paprika can been traced back to Ancient Greece over 5,000 years ago. The Hungarian language "pepper" is the origin of "paprika".
What is the difference in curry and curried?
The spellings are the same. Both words mean the same thing: Indian cuisine that includes meat and vegetables mixed with different seasonings.
Curry comes from Hindi word kari that means "to rub". It refers how spice mixtures are applied to food. Curry foods are usually cooked until golden brown.
Curried dishes were once reserved for special occasions, but today, they're enjoyed frequently throughout India. They include chicken, beef and lamb as well as fish, vegetables and rice.
Curried dishes can be served alongside plain white or brown rice. You can also add raita (a yogurt sauce), or chutney (a sweet relish).
What are the 11 spices of Indian cooking?
Coriander seeds and cumin seeds are the eleven main spices in Indian cuisine.
These ingredients can be found used in almost every recipe. These spices impart a distinct flavor to dishes such as curries (lentils), curries and chutneys. They also add a unique taste to rice, bread, and sweets.
For health reasons, spices are also beneficial. To fight cancer cells, turmeric is an example. Bad breath is protected by cloves. Black pepper lowers cholesterol. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.
A spice rack makes a great kitchen tool. It allows you to experiment with many different combinations of flavours. You can either make your own spice blends or purchase ready-made spices.
Some people prefer not to add any spices to their food. They believe spices mask natural flavors and do not improve them. A pinch of salt or pepper will not harm your dishes.
Most chefs agree spices are essential to culinary art. Many dishes would be bland and tasteless without spices. If you are feeling adventurous, try out a new dish and see what happens.

How To
How to choose which spices to buy
You need to be able to select the right herbs and spices to use in your cooking. There are many options available, so how do you choose which ones to add in your pantry?
When selecting spices, you need to be aware of three key factors: cost, shelf life, flavour, and cost. There are many flavour profiles that can be used depending on how you cook meat, poultry, fish and vegetables as well as beans, grains, pastas, eggs, bread, cakes, and other foods. Once you have decided on a category you will need to narrow your options based on the differences.
Also, shelf lives can vary widely. Some spices keep forever, while some others are prone to deterioration quickly. For example, cayenne pepper is good for years and oregano lasts only two months. There's also the cost. Spices can range anywhere from $1 per tablespoon to more than $100 per ounce. This means you have to strike the right balance between quality and cost.
It is also important to decide if you prefer organic ingredients or not. Organic products are safer for the environment and contain less pesticides and chemicals than their conventional counterparts. You'll have to balance the benefits and costs of organic products.
Online shopping is the best method to ensure that you get the right spices for the kitchen. Online retailers provide detailed information on each product, including ingredient lists, pricing, reviews, and ratings.
Once you have narrowed down your choices, you can place an online order with the retailer. Once you receive your items, store them safely in airtight containers away from heat and light.
