Elevating the everyday is our mission. At Belovedsaffron.com, we think the world deserves more than conventional cuisines — and more than take-out from chains. Our goal is to celebrate cultural flavours through spices, herbs and organic food from sustainable farming.

Saffron is our love affair; a culinary crescendo that evokes a warmth of its own. But cooking is so much more than a single ingredient — it’s also about respect. It’s about respecting people from different cultures who dedicate their lives to creating something extraordinary with every dish they serve; family meals or five-star restaurants alike.

And that’s why we’re inviting everyone to join us – to share their recipes, explore new flavors and be part of something special. We know everyone has something delicious to offer!

For now, love yourself and enjoy this one ...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic food?

Organic produce can be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. No growth hormones or animal testing are done. These crops can naturally grow, so no chemicals are used by farmers to combat pests or weeds.

Organic farming practices can also preserve soil quality by reducing erosion, and conserving water resources. Organics have more nutrients than traditional food, which makes them better for our health. Organic products are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods and have lower calories and fiber.

Is organic food good for you?

There are two types. Those we grow or those we get from someone else. There are exceptions, but the majority of the time, both options will be available. Organic food is healthier since it doesn't include any harmful chemicals.

Organic food can be found in supermarkets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Organic food is now available in most grocery stores, making it easier to find organic foods.

Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices and requires farmers to follow strict guidelines to ensure that organic produce is safe to eat. There are more than 30 million acres of US farmland that have been certified organic.

Organic food is often cheaper than traditional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.

In fact, according to the Environmental Working Group, organic food costs 10 percent less per pound than conventionally produced food. You can make a change to organic food if your family is concerned about their health.

Organic food has been a popular alternative for standard American diets. While many believe organic food can only come from specialty markets and fine dining restaurants, it is not true. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. The US market value of organic foods was $43Billion in 2012, up from $21B in 2007.

Is organic meat more nutritious?

If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. However, the truth is organic food is gaining popularity at a time when conventional food is falling out of favor.

Organic foods continue rising in popularity because they are healthier. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

There are two sides to the coin. Organic produce is more difficult to grow and takes more resources. Organic food can be more expensive than its nonorganic counterpart.

Organic meats can be more expensive that those from conventionally raised animals. But there are ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality.

Buy local to save money. Locally grown fruit and vegetables help lower the price of produce, as farmers are often given incentives to grow better crops.

A great way to save money is to search for deals. Organics often come with discounts.

Another way to save money? Eat less meat. The feed required to raise cattle can make meat production expensive.

There are many reasons that organic food is better than regular food for our bodies, and also for the planet. However, it is important to remember the price.

Organic foods are better for us.

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. Organic strawberries contained four times more pesticides that their conventional counterparts, and organic apples contained eight percent less.

Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. A study concluded that children who ate organic meat had 33% lower levels of blood lead than those who didn’t. Another study concluded that pregnant mothers should avoid eating conventional fish because of the high levels mercury.

Organic food seems to be safer than the non-organic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

Statistics

  • Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)
  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

Organic foods: Are they safer and more nutritious?

Organic food is produced without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown under natural conditions without artificial inputs such as fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic farming practices include crop rotation and cover crops, the composting of animal manure, the recycling of wastewater, as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), established in 2002 to regulate production, handling and processing of organic products sold in the United States. NOP regulations assure that organic agricultural products comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.

In the U.S., there are two types of certification programs available for producers who want their products labelled "organic": one for farmers and ranchers and another for manufacturers. Both programs require annual audits of operations to verify compliance with rigorous standards. Many certifying agents offer this service, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers (QA International), American Grassfed Association, and Quality Assurance International. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service in 2013, organic agriculture generated $4.7 billion in revenue. In 2013, organic agriculture accounted for $4.7 billion in sales. This represents a 23-percent increase over 2009. The number of grocery stores that sold organic products increased 12 percent over the same period. Spending directly on organic produce grew by 29 percent while that on meat, poultry, eggs and seafood only grew by 1 percent.

Organic food is more expensive but the quality of organic food is worth it. Consumer Reports found that 88 per cent of respondents would be willing to pay more for organic food if the nutritional value was higher. Health Affairs published another study that found organic food eaters are less likely than those who consume conventional foods to have health problems such diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Even though there is no evidence organic foods cause or treat diseases, some studies show that they can improve overall health by reducing pesticide and other contaminants exposure. For example, a review of 31 studies published in 2010 concluded that organically raised beef had significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group released a report in 2014 that analyzed data from USDA's Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. They found that there was a decrease in foodborne illness due to E.coli, salmonella, listeria moncytogenes or campylobacter. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
