Frequently Asked Questions
What is inorganic?
Organic food does not use pesticides or fertilizers. These chemicals could cause health problems for those who eat inorganic food.
Organic food is grown naturally without harmful substances such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. These chemicals can harm humans and animals.
Inorganic foods are meats, fishes, eggs, buttermilk, cheese, yogurt and honey as well as vegetables, fruits and spices.
Organic refers the way an agricultural product grows. For example, organic farming uses natural methods and soil amendments to grow crops, while conventional farming uses synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
Organic foods must comply with strict guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. All organic food must comply with the National Organic Program Standards. This means that it must not contain prohibited materials like antibiotics, growth hormones or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as well as industrial solvents. Additionally, organic food must be raised without toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers, sewage sludges, or ionizing radiation.

Are organic foods better?
According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. They discovered that organic apples contained eight more pesticides per gram than non-organic ones, while organic strawberries contained four times as many pesticides.
Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant mothers should avoid eating conventional fish because of the high levels mercury.
Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.
What are organic products for the skin?
Organic skincare products do not contain synthetic chemicals like parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, petroleum jelly or petrolatum.
Organic skincare products do not contain artificial colours, fragrances or preservatives.
They are designed to promote healthy skin, prevent premature wrinkles, heal injuries after they happen, and support overall wellbeing.
These are some of the terms that you will see when you shop for organic products
- Paraben Free is a grouping of chemicals that are used to maintain certain cosmetic products safe, but can be toxic when consumed in large quantities.
- Fragrance-Free - the product does not have added fragrance or essential oils.
- Cruelty-Free: No animals were hurt during manufacturing.
- Natural Ingredients: The ingredient is naturally derived form the animal or plant.

Organic food producers create products that are grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers. These foods include fruits, veggies, grains, and dairy goods.
Organic food production is only possible on farms where the crops are grown naturally. This includes crop rotation, soil preparation, and pest control.
USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), has strict requirements for agricultural products to be certified organic.
These guidelines help consumers access healthy, safe and nutritious foods.
Organic food has many benefits, including lower pesticide residues and higher levels of heavy metal contamination as well as better nutrition and flavor.
USDA certified organic products must bear the USDA Certified Organic label.
This certification means that the product meets the standards laid down by the National Organic Program.
Organic food helps us eat healthier and also protects the environment.
Organic farming techniques conserve water and land. Organic farming also helps to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, which are responsible for climate change.
Organic agriculture uses fewer chemical inputs and pollutes less.
This improves the air quality by reducing the likelihood of harmful gases like ammonia, nitrates and other pollutants building up in your atmosphere.
There are many types to organic farming.
Conventional farming refers to the use of synthetic inputs such as pesticides and fertilizers.
Regenerative farming includes compost, cover crops, as well as green manures that improve soil health. It encourages biodiversity.
Agroecology concentrates on the sustainable relationship between people, plants and animals.
Permaculture promotes self sufficiency through the creation of systems that imitate nature.

How To
Organic foods are healthier and more nutritious.
Organic foods are grown without the use chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are grown in natural conditions and without the use of any artificial inputs like fungicides or herbicides. Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.
In 2002, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), was established to regulate the sale, purchase, labelling, production, and distribution of organic products in the United States. NOP regulations assure that organic agricultural products comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.
In the U.S., there are two types of certification programs available for producers who want their products labelled "organic": one for farmers and ranchers and another for manufacturers. Both programs require that operations are audited annually to verify compliance with the strict standards. Several certifying agents offer these services, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers, Quality Assurance International, and the American Grassfed Association. Each of these organizations provides third-party verification to verify that farms are following strict guidelines in regards to environmental stewardship, labour practices and care for livestock.
The USDA's Economic Research Service estimates that organic agriculture was responsible for $4.7 billion of 2013 sales. The retail spending on organic products accounted for nearly $1.5 billion in 2013, a 23 percent increase over 2009. Sales at grocery stores were up 12 percent during this period. Spending on organic produce was up 29 percent, but only 1 percent on meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy.
While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. According to a 2015 survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 88 percent of respondents said they would pay more for organic food if it meant higher nutritional value. A Health Affairs study also found that organic food consumers are less likely to develop health problems such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, heart disease, depression, and other diseases.
There is no evidence to suggest eating organic foods can treat or prevent any diseases. However, some studies have suggested that they might be beneficial for your health as they may reduce your exposure of pesticides and contaminants. One example is the conclusion reached by a review of 31 studies, published in 2010, that organically reared beef was significantly less toxic than conventionally-raised beef. Similar results were also reached by a separate analysis of 11 2012 studies.
The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. After 2006, when USDA required stricter organic standards in animal raising for human consumption, the group noted that E.coli O157 was less common among children and adults.
