Is organic food better for us?
The Environmental Working Group's most recent report on pesticide residues found in food shows that organic fruits and veggies had almost half the pesticide content of non-organic. The Environmental Working Group found that organic apples contained eight-times less pesticides than other non-organic fruits, and organic strawberries had fourfold more than their conventional counterparts.
Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.
Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.
Are organic foods healthy?
There are two types, those we grow our own and those we purchase from another source. There are exceptions, but the majority of the time, both options will be available. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.
You can find organic food in supermarkets across North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.
Organic food has higher levels vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which makes it more delicious and nutritious. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.
The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are over 30,000,000 acres of US agricultural land that has been certified organic.
Organic food is often less expensive than conventional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.
According to Environmental Working Group, organic food can be 10 percent cheaper per pound when compared to conventionally produced food. Consider switching to organic foods if you are concerned about your health and the well-being of your family.
Organic food is a popular choice to traditional American cuisines. Although many may think that organic food is only available at specialty markets and gourmet restaurants, this isn't true. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.
In recent years organic food sales increased substantially. The market value of organic food in the US was $43 billion in 2012, up from $21 billion in 2007.
What are the benefits of organic farming?
Organic farming is a way for farmers to grow food naturally without the use chemicals. Organic farming is a way for farmers to produce food without using harmful pesticides.
Organic farming allows for natural fertilizers to be used. These fertilizers help to grow healthy plants and help to reduce the amount of chemical waste produced.
Organic farming is also beneficial for the environment. Farmers often use composting techniques to recycle nutrients back into the soil. This reduces pollution and conserves valuable resources.
Organic farming also helps the environment by increasing crop yields. This is because organic farming requires less water to grow the crops.
Organic production methods result in farmers receiving higher prices. Healthier foods are demanded by consumers who are more aware of the dangers posed by pesticides and chemical fertilisers.
This raises the demand to produce organic food products. Organic farming is gaining popularity because of these reasons.

Organic foods: Are they healthier and more nutritious than conventional food?
Organic foods are produced without the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They are grown in natural environments without artificial inputs (fungicides/herbicides/hormones, antibiotics or genetic engineering). Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.
In 2002, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), was established to regulate the sale, purchase, labelling, production, and distribution of organic products in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.
In the U.S., there are two types of certification programs available for producers who want their products labelled "organic": one for farmers and ranchers and another for manufacturers. Both programs require audits of operations each year to ensure that they are meeting strict standards. There are several certifying organizations that offer these services. These include the CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers as well as Quality Assurance International and the American Grassfed Association. These organizations offer third-party verification that farms adhere to strict guidelines about environmental stewardship and labour practices.
According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, organic agriculture accounted for $4.7 billion in sales in 2013. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. This period saw a 12 percent increase in grocery store sales. Spending directly on organic produce grew by 29 percent while that on meat, poultry, eggs and seafood only grew by 1 percent.
Organic food is more expensive but the quality of organic food is worth it. Consumer Reports conducted a survey in 2015 and found that 88 percent of respondents would pay more for organic foods if they had higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also reported that organic food intake is associated with fewer health problems, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Although there is no evidence eating organic foods prevents or treats any diseases, some studies suggest that consuming them might improve overall health by reducing exposure to specific contaminants and pesticides. For example, a review of 31 studies published in 2010 concluded that organically raised beef had significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.
According to a 2014 report by the Environmental Working Group, the incidence of foodborne disease caused by E.coli, salmonella or listeria monocytogenes, E. coli and E. coli O157H7 was lower when organic chicken, non-organic pork, beef, lamb and milk were compared. After 2006, when USDA required stricter organic standards in animal raising for human consumption, the group noted that E.coli O157 was less common among children and adults.
