What are organic foods and how do they compare?
Organic produce does not contain synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and sewage sludge. It is also grown without irradiation or genetic engineering. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops are allowed natural growth, so farmers don't use chemicals to kill pests and weeds.

They can also be used to maintain healthy skin, protect against premature aging, promote healing from injuries, and improve overall well-being.

- Paraben Free – These chemicals are used to preserve certain cosmetic products, but can cause serious health problems if taken in large amounts.
- Fragrance Free - The product is not scented with essential oils.
- Cruelty Free - No animals were injured during the manufacturing process.
- Natural Ingredients – The ingredient is naturally derived either from a plant or an animal.
- Vegan/Vegetarian: The ingredients can be either vegetarian or vegan.
- Gluten-Free - this means that gluten was removed from the formulation.
- Non-Toxic: The product does not contain toxic substances, carcinogens or any other harmful compounds that could cause harm to your health.
- Biodegradable means that the product can be thrown away as it will become harmless components.
- Pesticide-Free - No pesticides have been used in the growing and harvesting process.
- GMO-Free refers to the fact that no ingredients in the product contain genetically modified organisms.
- Certified Organic means that all the ingredients have been grown using methods that protect the soil and water as well as wildlife and farmers.
How can you tell organic food from non-organic?
Any chef will tell you fresh ingredients are more important than any other ingredient. That's because when we eat well, we feel better.
The same is true of our food. We know where our organic food came from and how it has been grown. We also know that it didn't have any harmful chemicals.
Organic foods are made without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, or genetically altered organisms (GMO). These substances are not allowed for organic farmers.
However, organic farming is not an easy task. There are many methods to safely grow them.
Many people refer to organic agriculture as sustainable agriculture. This means that organic farming does not use as many resources as conventional methods, but it still provides the essential nutrients needed to sustain life.
Organic farming practices include crop rotation, composting manure, cover cropping, and intercropping. These techniques prevent soil erosion while improving water quality.
They also reduce chemical pollution of waterways. Because most people live in urban areas, it is easy to find farms that grow organic produce.
There are two types of certification programs for organic products. The USDA National Organic Program certifies one, while independent certifying agencies certification the other. Both require strict compliance with organic standards.
USDA seals, or O Seals, may be attached to certified organic products. These symbols indicate that the product meets federal requirements.
Why should organic be my first choice?
Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. You must make healthy choices when buying food.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:
Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.
USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.
Avoid processed foods marked "natural" or with "no additives."
Always read the ingredient lists. If an ingredient isn’t listed, it might be added during processing.
You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.

In this article, I will share my tips and tricks for buying organic meat without having to break the bank.
I'll give you some tips about where to find organic meats at a low price and how much it costs per pound. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.
For healthy eating, you don’t have to spend a lot. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here are my top tips for keeping food costs down and still enjoying the many benefits of organic meat.
- Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This way, you won't waste any meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
- Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most common ones are sirloin steak, tenderloin roast, top round steak, and flank steak. These cuts are very low-fat and high in proteins.
- Try new recipes. One of the easiest ways to reduce your grocery bill is to start cooking meals with ingredients you haven't used before. You may be amazed at the variety of delicious dishes that you can make with fresh tomatoes, onions garlic, olive oil and spices.
- Be creative with leftovers - If you have leftover cooked meat or poultry, use them for sandwiches, salads, soups, casseroles, etc. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.
