I love spices adding flavour to food. How do you make spices alive in drinks?

Spices are wonderful because they can add depth and flavor to any beverage. A dash of cinnamon and nutmeg can make any beverage more delicious, including coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and cocktails.

Mixing spices can be fun to create new flavors. For minty water you could mix spearmint with peppermint leaves. You can also make spicy ginger-ginger tea by combining ginger and cardamom seeds.

Once you are skilled in the production of powdered spices, it is possible to apply that technique to herbs. Some of the most common herbs are basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano and sage.

The possibilities are limitless. Use powdered spices to give your beverages extra flavour or to enhance the taste of dishes such as soups, salads, and pasta.


What is the difference between cooking Whole and Ground Spices? Ground Spices?

There are no differences between cooking with whole spices or ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. It doesn't make a difference in terms of quality.

The price difference is however significant. Whole spices are more expensive because of the labor required to process them. But the flavour is well worth it.

You'll often find extra discounts for bulk purchases when you buy whole spices. An example: If you buy an entire bag full of cinnamon sticks, you might get a discount.

The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. You might be able to save money by buying these spices in bulk.

Whole spices also last longer than ground spices. Ground spices lose their potency rapidly due to oxygenation.

However, the main reason we recommend whole spices is because they add character to recipes.

Whole turmeric can be used to make delicious curry. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.

It takes time to grind spices. If you're buying whole spices it makes sense for you to buy large quantities. This will ensure that you don't run out of spices quickly.

The eleven spices of Indian cuisine are coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, mustard seeds, nigella seeds, black pepper, cloves, cinnamon sticks, dry red chili powder, turmeric, and cardamom.

These spices are found in nearly every dish. These spices lend a unique flavour to dishes such dal (lentils), curries chutneys pickles rice, bread and sweets.

Some people don't like spices. They believe that spices only mask natural flavors and do nothing to improve them. However, it is possible to enhance the taste of your meals by adding a little salt or pepper.

How to Store Spices

They should be kept out of direct sunlight and heat in an airtight container.
