Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference of curry and curried
There is no difference in spelling. Both words are used to describe the same thing: Indian dishes that combine meat or vegetables with various seasonings.
Curry is derived from the Hindi word kari, which means "to rub". This refers to the way the spice mixture is applied to the food. Curry is typically prepared until the food is golden brown.
Curried dishes weren't always reserved for special occasions. Today, they can be enjoyed throughout India. They can be made with chicken, beef or lamb and include vegetables as well.
Plain white rice is commonly served with curried meals. Other common accompaniments include raita (a yogurt sauce) and chutney (a sweet relish).
What are the 7 Indian spices?
Indian spices is a collection Indian spices. They include coriander and turmeric as well as cardamom, cumin and coriander. These spices add flavour and aroma to dishes by blending and complementing natural ingredients such as meats and vegetables. The unique flavour profiles created by spices are what make Indian cooking special.
Cardamom has a pungent, sweet taste with hints o citrus and ginger. It's used in many dishes, including biryani and curries. Cumin has an earthy, rich aroma and a nutty flavor. It is commonly added to curries and meat dishes, as well as dals. Coriander has a sweet citrus aroma and adds a subtle nuttiness to dishes. It is often used to season vegetables and lentils.
Turmeric's earthy flavour is enhanced by mustard, spices, pepper hints, and other spices. This spice is popularly used in curries as well as other dishes. Fenugreek's aroma is rich and has earthy tones. It is often used in seasoning meat dishes like kebabs, curries, and kebabs. Ginger is spicy and pungent, with hints citrus. It is a perfect addition to curries, soups, and chutneys. Asafoetida or hing has a pungent scent and strong taste that can replace onion and garlic for some recipes.
These spices are a unique combination that creates Indian cuisine.
What purpose is Thai spice used?
We've all heard the term "Thai spice" thrown around without knowing exactly what it means. It makes our mouths water when we try it.
But it isn't just any old spice. It is an important ingredient that gives flavor and depth to bland dishes.
There are thousands of Thai recipes, but very few include the authentic flavor. Let's learn how to include these delicious flavors in your meals.
Thais have been using herbs and spices in their cooking since antiquity to add flavor to food. Thai is the Sanskrit word that means "to cook".
Most Thais like spicy food, even today. This preference is often attributed to the hot weather in Thailand, which makes it difficult to keep warm without something hot to drink. Thais also consume more chili peppers per capita than Americans and Europeans.
You can learn the most about Thai spices by visiting a local Asian grocery. There, you'll find a wide variety of ingredients, including dried chilies, fresh basil leaves, curry paste, and even ground black pepper.
You might also find whole peppercorns and cloves as well as cinnamon sticks, star anise pods (star anise), cardamom pods ginger root, cumin seeds coriander seeds seeds, fennel seed, nutmeg mace, mustard seeds, saffron threads garlic, onion, rice vinegar, and tamarind juice.
Thai cuisine can use either dry or wet spices. Most Thai cuisine uses dry spices, which are ground and pulverized finely.
Dry spices are typically added directly to a dish. Ground red pepper can be sprinkled on chicken soup, for example. To make a paste, wet spices are often mixed with butter or oil.
Wet spices are often used in sauces, marinades, and dressings. Common wet spices include oyster sauce, fish sauce and sesame oils, curry paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame seed oil.
Thai cuisine can be made at home by learning which spices work well with specific ingredients.
For example, red pepper flakes is recommended for beef. White pepper is better for seafood such as shrimp.
If you don't live near an Asian market, you can order online. There are many options for exotic herbs, spices and dried chilies.
Next time you're hungry, try one of these delicious Thai recipes!

How to Store Spices
Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.
Place them in a dark cupboard to store spices for extended periods. This will ensure that they stay fresh and prevent any possible oxidation.
Store your spices in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. If the spice is placed near a heater or window, it may lose its flavour and aroma.
Spices can be best kept in an airtight container or tin. Make sure that there is no moisture in any plastic containers you store spices in.
As humidity can cause mold growth, it is important to check the seal before opening or resealing.
Do not throw away any spices that you have left over. Make sure to use leftover spices in other recipes. For an extended shelf life, you can freeze the vegetables.

How To
How to Make A Garlic Press
A garlic press can be one of the most important tools in a home cook's toolbox. You can quickly mince garlic or make a paste. You can also crush whole garlic cloves to make buttery spreads or garlic seasonings.
But if you don't own a garlic press yet, you might wonder where to start with one. We have some tips to help get you started.
First, you need a large dish. Then, place the bowl under the press and add the crushed garlic. Now, adjust the pressure regulator valve until it reaches maximum.
Next, turn the handle clockwise until you hear a click. The top end of the press should lift and reveal a flat area that allows you to slide your blade back and forth across the bowl. Continue turning the handle counterclockwise until the blades close.
Finally, take the pressed garlic out and enjoy!
Here are other ways you can make use of this versatile tool.
- Make minced garlic soups, sauces for salads, dips and seasonings.
- To crush whole garlic cloves, use the press to create a buttery spread
- Put whole garlic cloves on top of pizza dough, before you bake
- Roasted garlic can be incorporated into creamy polenta or mashed potatoes.
- Use the press to make homemade pesto out of garlic
- Puree garlic into a smooth vinaigrette
