What are the things to look for when purchasing organic products?

USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

When buying chicken, make sure it comes only from chickens fed 100% organic feed and never given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens eat both animals and plants. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Like ruminants, dairy cattle have four stomachs. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. For example, pork may be labelled '95% organic.' This means 95 percent of the pig's feed came from organic sources.

What you should know about organic food

Organic foods come from plants and animals without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or additives. They are made without genetic engineering and the application of ionizing radiance. The food must contain no artificial ingredients, colourings, flavour enhancers, or preservatives. It should not contain genetically modified animals (GMOs).

When Justus von Liebig, a chemical chemist, coined "organic", which means "life-giving," to describe the properties in manure, the term "organic" was used for the first time. The term organic is often associated with food production. Organic simply means the product is made from only naturally occurring substances such proteins, carbohydrate, and minerals.

The global consumption of organic products has increased dramatically over the past decade. According to statistics, approximately 50% of the world’s population consumes at minimum one organic product each day. This number is rising and is expected increase to 70%, 90%, and 80% by 2020.

There are many factors that consumers choose organic produce. Some consumers prefer organic products for the taste. Other people prefer them because organic produce is more nutritious. Still others believe organic farming is better for the environment. There are ethical concerns regarding farm workers and animals. This is why some people choose organic products.

Although organic foods tend to be more expensive than regular ones, prices can vary depending on where they are located. There are many factors that affect the cost of organic food. One factor is the availability of land suitable for organic agriculture. Another is the cost of inputs and labour needed for organic cultivation. Transport costs, marketing costs and taxes are also important. In Europe, for instance, the average price for organic food in Europe is 10% higher than its regular price.
