What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?

Is organic the same as pesticide-free?
Organic food is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This means that organic foods are not subject to chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
Because organic produce is free of harmful additives, it also has more nutrients than conventionally grown foods.
The USDA National Organic Program, (NOP), requires farmers to adhere to strict guidelines when cultivating organic crops.
These guidelines include soil preparation and crop rotation, pest management, water conservation, as well as harvesting practices.
Organic farming also promotes healthy ecosystems which are beneficial to wildlife and natural habitats.
Is organic food better for us?
The Environmental Working Group's most recent report on pesticide residues found in food shows that organic fruits and veggies had almost half the pesticide content of non-organic. Organic strawberries contained four times more pesticides that their conventional counterparts, and organic apples contained eight percent less.
Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. Another study concluded that pregnant mothers should avoid eating conventional fish because of the high levels mercury.
Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible in order to reduce the risk of getting cancer.

What happens to the body when you switch over to organic products
Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They come only from natural sources of water and free-range animals. The term "organic", which means they don't contain additives or chemicals, refers to their non-containing any. This product was created by nature, and therefore does not contain harmful substances.
The term "natural" refers to how food is grown. It is used to describe food that has not been processed into its final form, such as fruits. Natural foods are often fresher because they're not subject to heat radiation, chemical preservatives or any other treatment. However, some people believe natural doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Many experts say there isn't much difference between conventional and organic foods. Both types can be tested for safety and quality. Organic produce has less pesticide residues and pollutant than conventionally grown food.
Most grocery stores offer organic options. If you are looking for organic meat, poultry and eggs, check with your local grocery store.
