Frequently Asked Questions
Which are the best Thai spice?
Galangal (lemongrass), coriander, turmeric and cinnamon are the best Thai spice. Other good spices include clove, cardamom and black peppercorn as well as cloves, star anise and cloves.
Other valuable spices include bay leaves, curry, pandan, curry leaves. Kaffir lime leaves. Vanilla beans. Tamarind pods. Lemon grass. Basil.
What kind of mint is used to make Thai food?
Lime-leaf mint (Mentha cervina) is the most commonly used type of mint in Thai cuisine.
It adds freshness to dishes with its mild, lemony flavor. Thai dishes often include other spices such as galangal (lemongrass), garlic, and coriander.
Mint can be used as a sweet or savoury herb. You can create authentic Thai flavours by choosing the right herbs, spices, and aromatics.
Make a Thai dish next time and add some lime-leaf mint to give it extra flavor.
Happy cooking!
Does Thai use ginger?
The answer is yes. Traditional Thai cuisine uses ginger extensively. It is often added to stir-fries and soups and is also commonly used in desserts and drinks such as lassis.
Ginger is native to China, Japan, and Korea, and its origins date back more than 5,000 years. It is believed that ginger originated in Southeast Asia where it was grown for medicinal purposes.
Ginger has been known to improve digestion and reduce nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger aids in relieving muscle spasms and joint pains. It can also treat arthritis.
Ginger is often fresh in Thailand. It is sliced into thin strips and then dried before being stored for later use. Ginger root can be purchased in cans or jars at Asian markets.
What's the difference in cooking with whole vs. ground spices? Ground Spices?
There are no differences between cooking with whole spices or ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. This ensures that there are no differences in the quality of spices.
The price difference is however significant. Whole spices cost more because of the labour involved in processing them. But the flavour is worth it.
When you buy bulk spices, you may get additional discounts. For example, you might receive a discount if you buy an entire bag of cinnamon sticks.
The same goes for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, etc. If you purchase these spices in bulk, you may be able to save money.
Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. This is because ground spices lose their potency quickly due to oxidation.
However, the main reason we recommend whole spices is because they add character to recipes.
Whole turmeric can be used to make delicious curry. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.
Also, grinding spices takes time. A large amount of whole spices is a good idea. So you don't run short of spices.
What is the difference between curry and curried?
There is no difference in spelling. Both words mean the same thing: Indian cuisine that includes meat and vegetables mixed with different seasonings.
Curry derives its name from the Hindi word kari which means "to rub." The spice mixture is then applied to the food. Curry foods are usually cooked until golden brown.
Curried dishes weren't always reserved for special occasions. Today, they can be enjoyed throughout India. You can choose from chicken, beef, lamb or fish as well as vegetables and rice.
Plain white rice is commonly served with curried meals. A raita (a yogurt-based sauce) or a chutney is another common accompaniment.

How To
How to choose the right spices?
To cook, you'll need to know how to choose the right herbs and spices for your recipes. There are hundreds of options, so where do you begin when deciding which ones to add to your pantry?
There are three main factors to consider when choosing spices: flavour profile, shelf life, and cost. You can choose to use different flavour profiles depending on whether your cooking involves meat, poultry or fish, vegetables and pasta. Once you've settled on a category, it's time to narrow down your choices.
Shelf lives vary greatly too. Some spices are good for a lifetime, while others can be lost quickly. For example, cayenne pepper is good for years and oregano lasts only two months. Also, the price. Prices for spices range from $1 per teaspoon to more than $100 an ounce. This means that spice prices can vary widely.
You'll also want to determine whether you prefer organic or non-organic ingredients. Organic products contain fewer chemicals and pesticides than conventional alternatives, making them better for your health and the environment. You'll have to balance the benefits and costs of organic products.
Online shopping is the best way for you to make sure that you have the right spices in your kitchen. Online retailers offer detailed information about each product, including reviews, pricing, ratings, and ingredient lists.
After narrowing down your options, you can place an order directly with the retailer. After you have received your items, keep them safe in an airtight container away from heat or light.
