How to Make a Garlic Press

A garlic press is one of the most valuable tools in any home cook's arsenal. It makes it easy to mince garlic into a paste, puree it into soups or salad dressings, or even make a sauce. It is also useful for crushing whole cloves of garlic into buttery spreads and garlic salt.

However, if you don’t already have a garlic pressing machine, you might wonder how to get one. These tips will help you get started.

First, you need a large dish. Place the bowl below the press and pour in the crushed garlic. Set the pressure regulator valve at the maximum setting.

Next, turn your handle clockwise to hear a click. You will be able to slide the blade over the bowl by lifting the top part of your press. Continue turning the handle counterclockwise until the blades close.

Finally, take out the pressed garlic.

Here are some ways to make this versatile tool even more useful:

  • Make minced garlic soups, sauces for salads, dips and seasonings.
  • Use the press to crush whole garlic cloves into a buttery spread
