Almond Flour and Almond Meal: What is the Difference?
As an almond flour alternative, an almond meal is more versatile because it can be used for baking, cooking, and even making nut-free dishes.
Almond flour may also contain gluten, making it difficult to digest. It is important to avoid gluten-free products if you have celiac or other digestive disorders.
Although almond flour isn’t considered to be a “superfood”, it is rich in healthy fats and fibre.
The nutritional benefits of the almond meal include magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and vitamins A, B1 (thiamin), and C. In addition, it provides 25 percent of the daily value for folate, 20 percent for niacin, 15 percent for pantothenic acid, and 5 percent for riboflavin.
Almond flour, made from almonds contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oil. Both types lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase HDL(good cholesterol).
Almond flour also contains antioxidants like phenolics and flavonoids. These compounds prevent free radical-induced oxidative stress.
An experiment published in the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry showed that almond flour has an equivalent antioxidant activity to that of blueberries.
Almond flour can be purchased with almond milk that has been supplemented with nutrients.
Can you spice up a drink?
I love how spices bring flavour to food. But how do you make them come alive when used in drinks?
Spices are great because they bring out the best in any beverage. There's nothing better than adding cinnamon or nutmeg in your glass of wine or beer, whether it's coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or cocktails.
Most recipes require ground spices. You will need to use fresh whole spices. While this makes sense, it is costly, takes time and requires storage space.
Here's where the magic happens. With a little creativity, you can make your favorite spices easy to use in powdered form. These spices can be mixed into favorite beverages to create tasty spiced drinks.
These powders can be made in two ways. The first involves the grinding of whole spices to make fine powder. Another uses a mortar and pestle to grind the spices into a finer consistency.
It doesn't matter what method you choose, the result is easier to measure out than whole spices and easier to store. Powder also keeps well so you won't run dry.
Mixing different spices can create new flavors. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. For spicy ginger tea, use ginger and cardamom capsules.
Once you are proficient in making powdered spice, you can also apply this technique to herbs. Some of the most common herbs are basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano and sage.
The possibilities are endless. Powdered spices can be used to add flavour to beverages or enhance the flavor of dishes like soups, salads and pasta.

Sourness is also very popular in Thailand. Hot dishes are often paired with sour foods. This combination balances out the heat.
Thai food includes spicy food. Thai dishes often use spices such as chili pepper, galangal or ginger root.
