What is organic meat?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. This also means that animals weren't given any genetically modified feed. It is safe to eat because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.

What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?

USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.

When buying meat, make sure it is from organically fed cows. Cattle are ruminants which means that they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.

You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. A digestive tract that is omnivorous includes a crop, proventriculus and gizzard. It also contains small intestines, large intestines, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment, the udder, is where milk comes from.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.


Organic foods are better for us.

According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.

Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.

Organic food tends to be healthier than nonorganic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

It's okay to want more variety in grocery shopping. We're conditioned to expect low-quality foods that taste bad. That's why you'll find most grocery stores stocked with identical prepackaged products.

Organic food is popular because it is healthier and tastes better. How can you convince people to pay a little more?

You could also tell them organic food is more expensive. This doesn't necessarily mean organic food tastes better. This might make them suspicious about your motives.

It is better to emphasize its positive aspects. Organic food is healthier and contains less pesticides, antibiotics, and it has higher nutritional content. Plus, it's grown without synthetic fertilizers and herbicides, which means it's healthier for us and our environment.

Many people turn down organic food simply because it is too costly. However, if they look at the health benefits, organic food may be worth the cost.

The reason why organic food tastes better is that it's produced under strict guidelines that prevent contamination. Organic food retains more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Organic food is also tastier because it's picked later in the season. This makes it more fresh and easy to digest.
