Organic produce is vital for our health. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. It's healthier for us as well as more environmentally-friendly because it doesn’t rely on pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals.

You might not know this, but organic fruits and vegetables don't have to be treated with chemicals. It means that organic fruits and vegetables taste better, last longer, and are brighter.

It's because organic is healthy for you and the planet. Organic is healthy for your health and for the environment.

Organic foods are better for us.

According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.

Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. One study found that organic meats had 33 percent less lead in children than the levels of those who did not eat them. Another study concluded that pregnant mothers should avoid eating conventional fish because of the high levels mercury.

Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.

How To

What you should know about organic food

Organic foods are plants and animals grown without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or additives. They can be produced without the use of genetic engineering or ionizing radiation. Food must not contain artificial colours, flavour enhancers or preservatives. It should not contain genetically modified animals (GMOs).

When Justus von Liebig, a chemical chemist, coined "organic", which means "life-giving," to describe the properties in manure, the term "organic" was used for the first time. Most people associate organic production with food. Organic is a product that contains only naturally occurring substances, such a proteins, fats, or minerals.

In the past decades, the consumption of organic products has grown dramatically worldwide. According to recent statistics, around 50% of the world's population consumes at least one organic product daily. This number is rising and is expected increase to 70%, 90%, and 80% by 2020.

There are many reasons consumers choose organic products. Some prefer the flavor, while others prefer them because they are healthier. Others also believe organic farming makes it more sustainable. But, non-organic products can be a good choice because there are ethical concerns over the treatment and welfare of farm workers.

Organic foods are usually more expensive than conventional ones, although prices vary depending on countries and regions. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. One factor is the availability land suitable for organic agricultural. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming. Transport costs, marketing costs and taxes are also important. In Europe, for example, organic food prices are 10% more than regular food.

Below is a summary of the major differences between organic food and conventional food.

  • Organic produce is free from synthetic fertilizers, growth regulators, hormones, and antibiotics.
  • Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
  • Organic milk comes only from cows who are fed hay and pasture grasses all-naturally.
  • All organic raw materials are certified organic.
  • No pesticides or other harmful chemicals are allowed during organic fruits and vegetables' growth and processing stages.
  • Organic meat, poultry, and seafood are free from radiation.
  • Before using raw nuts or seeds, they must be soaked.
  • Organic cooking is only allowed to use healthy oils.
  • Organic eggs are laid by hens, and have access to the outdoors.
